Technically, anyone who submits to the will of God or Allah (same being, different name) is a Muslim. This would include Christians. However, in practice, Islam and Christianity are completely separate doctrines with very different concepts of the nature of God and the divine, and are not similar enough for Christians to actually be Muslims in practice. Islam was actually considered a Christian heresy early in it's history, and relations between some Muslims and Christians have never really recovered.

Good Question;
Muslim simply means one of peace. You have to remember Jesus,Mose,Abraham,Noah all pray with there face to the ground. How do Christian pray? Muslim are more Christian than Christians. But let me give you some ammo because in reality none of you'll know what your talking about:) Tell your Muslim friend this! Islam is only 1400 years old and the Torah is 6000 years old! And the Muslims follow the laws and customs of the prophets of the bible. The Koran mention Jesus more than Muhammad. So the Muslims stole there customs and practices from the prophet of the bible. The Christian use to everything the Muslims do now! But man step in and change the rules and call it the new testament! So I guess God orignal commandments had to be refurbished.

Islam teaches that Jesus was a prophet of God (or Allah depending on where you went to school) and had some good things to say but was not necessarily the only begotten son of the "Almighty". Muslims take their teachings from the words of Mohammed (whom they refer to as the one prophet who expressed the whole "God" thing the best) and the later interpretations of his teachings by their own holy teachers and scholars, depending on where they come from in the world. The point is that they say, sure, he was a nice guy and inspired by "God", but there's more to the story. A Christian, in their view, has a little more history to learn. Much the same as many latter-day Christian groups say today also.
Hope that helps. All the best.

Probably your friend means that Muslims believe that previously before the born of the Jesus, Christian is a branch of Islam until the Bible (Original Injil for Muslims) was being modified by the Christian then it caused the split forming two religion.

Muslims consider Jews and Christians to be People of the Book, meaning that have the right general idea and worship the correct deity but have strayed off of the fully correct path.

Muslims are deinitely not Christians. Christians believe Jesus to be divine and needed for salvation, and no Muslim would agree with etiher statement.

No definitely not. I have known quite a few Muslims. In fact, I know a family that lives right next to me on my street. I know for a fact that they are not Christian because they are the only ones on my block that don't go to mass every Sunday. The rest of my block does.

I am a Muslim myself, I should know. THE ANSWER, MY FRIEND, IS CLEARLY NO. We are very different. You believe God has a son, we don't. You have many versions of the Bible, we only have one version of the Quran. We pray towards the Kabaa and read the Quran daily and you don't. Woman are not allowed to wear skirts by the age of, I believe, 4, and you can. We go to Masjids and Mosques every Friday and you go to Churches every Sunday. There are many more differences, but I am too tired to write them. So as you can see, the clear answer is NO WAY!

What your friend means to say is that Islam means "submission to the will of God" and Muslim means "one who submits to the will of God". Islam teaches that those who submit will go to Heaven. It teaches that Christians will go to Heaven. So that makes Christians submitters. Which kind of makes them Muslims, but not followers of the perfected religion which was revealed to Muhammad in the Qur'an.
