I mean, I can understand things like "Thou shalt not kill" and "Thou shalt not bear false witness", etc. Things like that can end up hurting other people (especially that first one).
But do we have an idea about why the Christian god says in the bible that homosexual sex is bad? So bad that the participants ought to be put to death?
I mean, sure, there are diseases and stuff, but they're mostly preventable, and it's not like homosexual sex is the only way to contract them. Certainly it's not so bad that you have to kill both people: that's literally curing the disease by killing the patient.
So what's up with that? Was it a social thing of the time, outdated now? And if so, why do some Christians still get so up-in-arms about it?
And please, refrain if you can from the "it's unnatural" argument. Textiles, money, writing and selective breeding all existed in biblical times, and are all "unnatural" too, but the bible doesn't condemn users of these things to death.

Heretic Savant: Actually, I've always thought it was pretty clear on this. Am I misinterpreting it when it says that both people ought to be killed?

Um, because natural selection is, you know, natural. Sort of like the name implies. Selective breeding selects for traits that man desires, not necessarily traits that provide for an increased chance of survival in nature.

la.koto: So, because this homosexual couple will not contribute to the proliferation of our group, we will diminish the population further by killing them both? This seems counterproductive to me...

Free Thinker (again):
"It is sin because God said so. That is good enough for me."
How, exactly, does this philosophy involve thinking? To say nothing of thinking freely?

The greek and roman soldiers used to rape their fallen enemies on the battlefeild--the bible's authors at this time attributed this to homosexuality, since they didn't realize that rape was just an act of violence, not necessarily linked to sexual orientation

May God Bless You Spibbles.
The answer to your question is basic and simple.
God made "Woman" for "Man" and He considers anything outside of that as an abomination before Him.
Men should not lay with men and woman should not lay with woman.
Even though I do believe that God created the Homosexual just as He created the Heterosexual for His own purpose.
It is a gift back to God if the Homosexual refrains from acting on his/her sexual desires.
This may seem cruel, but God is Holy and Just and we should never question His will, but simply obey it.

God designed marriage to be a picture of His relationship with man, specifically the relationship between Christ and the church. (See Ephesians 5) So, anything that changes that fundamental relationship (hosexuality, adultery, etc.) is an offense to God. (See also Hebrews 13:4)
As for it being "unnatural," God describes it so in Romans 1:26-27. Homosexuality is unnatural because it is not God's design. All of the "unnatural" things you list fall under the "dominion mandate" of Genesis 1: 28--having dominion over and subduing (studying, managing, etc.) the earth and the animals.

The bible writers came up with those laws for their civilization, and then pretended they were from god. It was very very important for people to have lots of babies in those times, because plenty of them would die before reproducing themselves, and they needed more people to keep the civilization going.
Since two men can't have babies, it would be wrong for them to be off wasting their valuble sperm on each other when they should be trying to get some poor girl pregnant. Right? Hence why we have sodomy (any sexual act that is not procreative), because they needed to have children, not fun.
The bibical gays were probably put to death just to make an example. Or because the leaders were afraid they would tempt other men. Something along those lines.
And now, of course, some idiots are using outdated laws that don't apply anymore to make excuses for their own bigotry and fear.
Oh, and to jack d:
That "traditional family" is a mid to late twentieth century idea. It arose from the freedom we have in todays society and a way to make up for the loss of control the upper classes had on the common people. Children only need a male and a female role model, not parent, to create their identities from. Learn your facts before you spout off crap that isn't true.

1. God did not created any organ for homosexual acts and what they use is so dirty that should not have any place among humans.
2. Dirt spirits are behind every homosexual act. If they would see how nasty spirits are behind their acts, I am sure, they will never do it again.

By not using the gift of sex to go and multiply as God ordered
and misusing our bodies in this manner, people who choose this lifestyle are directly rebelling against God.
The results of this practice are evidence enough without the Bible to tell us,that something is grossly wrong with it.
Every person i know,without any biblical knowledge,naturally recoil in disgust at the tought of it whenever it's mentioned,thats just the natural reaction without any bias;
i don't know how you can say selective breeding is unatural, what about natural selection?

Because if you use your 'parts' for anything other than what they were intended for by God, it is a sin. It's not just same-sex intercourse that counts as a homosexual act either. Some examples of other homosexual 'acts' include marrying some one of the same sex, lusting anyone, or having lustful thoughts of anyone.

We can argue evolution or creation later, but you are looking for a specific question now and this is the best understanding I can give on such short notice.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, '
for she was taken out of man."
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
He created them "man" and "woman," so anything else is not recognized, liked, appreciated or accepted in His eyes.

I agree with Stephen J. If we allow gay marriage then we are destroying the traditional family. Which consists of a father( male), mother( female), and their kids. Everyone is whining about youth problems and etc. The reason for these problems is due to the lack of a traditional Christian family. Besides gay people are unnatural and need psychiatric treatment.
