i know there's a bunch of different factors, but does anyone know some way to find out? my dad said that 3 sips of smirnoff (0.2% alcohol) would still be detectable hours later. that doesn't sound right to me. would it, in general? or if you know how to find out, i'll give you my statistics.

i was wondering how long you'd have to wait to register 0.00 BAC. i'm 18 (this entire discussion is theoretical, of course), a girl, 5'8'', 165 pounds, and i've been told i have a fast metabolism

Yes, the DMV has statistics. 3 sips of something might not be detectable hours later, it depends on a few factors; if the person had an empty stomach, their weight, their gender, etc.

I do know one drink (including beer) put enough alcohol into a person (average height and weight) to render them DUI in CA.

it really doesnt matter on your statistics, it matters on your metabolism. the average person burns about .015 of thier blood alcohol content (BAC) per hour. one 12 oz beer, one shot (1oz) of hard liquor or one glass of wine gives your about a .0175 BAC. Thats why they say one drink per hour and you'll be ok to drive (except under 21, most states are .020 BAC for DUI's under the age of 21)..... so to answer the question. three sips, i'd say it'd be detectible for about 5 minutes, just ball park though.

empty stomach or full? there's a valve at the base of your stomach called the piloric valve. When you eat it closes. when you dont, it's open.... so if you dont eat, the alcohol is absorbed by your intestine, which causes your BAC to increase at a faster rate. If you do, it's absorbed at a slower rate through your stomach. So..... if it's empty you get drunker quicker but you metabolize it quicker.

there's a card on there that you can calculate your BAC by weight. remember that the average person burns .015 BAC per hour AND the card applies to a person with a full stomach. It kinda calculates it for you. but basically one drink an hour and you're ok..... theoretically of course :^)

it depends on a bunch of different factors like others have said. there's really no way of knowing unless you have a breathalyzer. just because you don't feel it, doesn't mean your blood alcohol content is fine. whether you feel buzzed or not, does not mean there's not a lot of alcohol in your bloodstream. i've seen on tv people who got pulled over, and were asked to do those sobriety test, and passed with flying colors, yet their BAC was higher than the legal limit. however, i don't think 3 sips of smirnoff will do anything to you ..lol...that's like taking cough syrup ...

I assume that any amount of alcohol is detectable to some degree. But if you only take a sip, it should be gone within an hour at the most.
