You can lose all your data for the game your playing also the lense that reads the disc back and forth. The lense would freeze right where you stopped it at and when you go turn it back up your lens would not work how it needs to. Let the computer do what it was made for.

You shouldn't turn off the PS3 that way. All you have to do is hold the center PS button on the controller for 2 seconds and go to turn off console and the PS3 will power down and will go into standby mode. Or you just hold down the power button on the PS3 until it beeps and then the console will go into standby mode and then turn the back switch to the "off" position.

You should only turn the back switch to the "off" position when the PS3 in stand by mode, not while the console is still running.

I don't know what will happen if you keep on turning the console off the way that you are now, but you shouldn't turn it off that way. Even the users guide for the PS3 says that you shouldn't turn the PS3 off by flipping the main power switch while it's still running.

it shouldn't matter. its just another off switch. the stand by mode just keeps the PS3 on but not fully on. so just shut it off it u want to save power.
