Hi, I'm stuck. I'm interested in rich colors, and the shabby chic/utilitarian look. I love the casual and formal look together.
One of my problems is, is that I'd like to have a different color in every room. I realize, that to have connection throughout the home, at least requires the same colored baseboards, frames etc.

What colors would you, personally, use throughout your home in each of the rooms to get the clean shabby chic/utilitarian/ralph lauren look?

Also, what accent color would you use and what color would you do your baseboards or frames etc.?

What is your take on the all white look versus the richly colored walls?

I know I have to live in it, but I would like to know your opinion.

Do you think this is an interesting question?

THE COLORS I HAD IN MIND ARE A FRESH MED GREEN, BLUE, WHITE/TAN AND A ROSY RED. MAYBE BROWN SOMEWHERE LIKE THE BASEBOARDS. I'VE ALSO GOT A MIDNIGHT BLUE TO WORK WITH.

I suggest you pick three colors: one for the walls, one for the trim and one for the ceiling. Your trim should be the same throughout all the rooms for continuity and will be the uniting device that pulls all the rooms together. You can flip the wall color and ceiling color from room to room, making them feel completely different, and yet you know they will all match for visual flow. Then choose a carpet that will unite the entire space.

In my house, I have chosen a light rose, pastel blue, and charcoal grey, with a dark rose trim to unite them all. I have a salt and pepper carpet throughout, with slate grey entry hall.

Find a decorating site on the computer, and experiment with different colors in different room. All the paint companies have them.

I like shabby Chic too, although I don't decorate that way. I think If you need to carry a color through out I would go with a ivory?off white. Not to dark.
The woods such as base boards or frames do in a light wood color with a yellow orange hue.

I was a forever 21 and they had the most awesome decoration hanging in the store.I don't know if all the forever have the same but you need to go check it out. Very shabby chic! I'll try to explain:
In different off whites, and different torn fabrics and yarns, they built almost a tree form..thinnest on top, all tied together, but spread out every 3 or 4 inches hung onto the ceiling..towards the bottom, maybe knee height they were pulled apart and a small 18-24" glass table hung. the yarns and fabrics were tied under the table..
Well this surely don't sound as cool as it looked...sorry
I'd go with medium brown and butterscotch and teal for accents..
good luck.
