you've been addicted to nicotine and are learning to deal with life without it. it's a daily struggle that does get better with time. cigarettes have always been addictive, but it's only fairly recently that we accept tobacco for what it is. smoking used to be cool, and if you think it wasn't as addictive as today, how do you explain all those older smokers who never managed to do what you're doing in giving it up?
you can do this, but don't slack off in your attitudes -- it takes persistence and will power. And don't lie to yourself that you can smoke just one or that you can quit anytime. You've seen yourself that it isn't easy, and the days you've invested in weaning yourself shouldn't be wasted by giving in. Good luck.

Hi, Ki: I, too, was underweight when I quit in 2003. The bad news is that the weight gain continued over a couple of years. The good news is that, for me, it wasn't horrific. My metabolism slowed (and yours may not) and that's the worst of it. And, yes, it slowed over a long period of time. So I jumped a size, big deal. Am I happy with my new shape? No, but I am happy that the pulmonary disease I'm stuck with for the rest of my life won't be getting worse. I really rejoice when I see someone quit, especially before they do permanent damage. God bless your efforts to keep the weight off. Walk, walk, walk. The treadmill is your best friend! Love and best of luck, cmw EDIT: I was reading some of the answers and some misinformation. You need to know that smoking actually burns calories, so even if you did not eat more food, you'd gain weight. And that's other than the metabolism slowing part. Only 10% of people gain over as long as 5 years, so your odds are good. It does not have to be a nightmare. Stay positive.

A cigarette releases a shot of serotonin. Very mellow. No smoke, no serotonin. Stay stopped for a while, the serotonin cones back. Simple. It's like taking Vitamin Something. Soon the body produces no Vitamin Something; it doesn't have to. Stop the Vitamin, and you have a Vitamin deficiency. If you take nicotine pills, patches, gum, smokeless or any other of that $50 rip-off crap, all it does is make you go thru it again.

The same thing happens to my Dad when he tries to quit. He's always so mean to everyone! I think part of the reason is because the niccotine helps to calm your nerves. Without it, you get stressed which causes many people to get angered easily. Plus you are addicted to it, and your body is having withdrawl. I will give you a similar scenario - for instance, with me, I get angry when I'm really hungry. My body is telling me I need food. This somehow makes me irritable. Your body is telling you that you need a cigarette, but you can't have one so it is upseting you. Give it time. I think you're doing great! Many peole can't make it past a few days! Keep it up! You won't regret your decision to quit!!!

I quit smoking over 28 years ago and I tried everything to quit and one day it finally took. I got angry, sad, mad, and you name it. Nicotine is a drug, just like any other. So if you can not beat yourself up over what you are experiencing you will be better off. Drink lots of water every day. Eat citrus fruit and other fruit and veggies. Try not to drink coffee and and cola products for awhile. Blessings

Maybe you are just a smuck, and did not notice when you were smoking. I quit Jan 9th in 1999 cold turkey and did not and do not have an anger problem. I will punch anyone who says I do. I did start talking to myself. SO anger is NOT a reason to start smoking again!! ha ha. You think you get angry now wait 5 years to discover that you still want a cigerrette and then you will go OH ****.

Nicotine Withdrawal symptoms. Try some gum like Nicorette that gives you a little nicotine so you can make a smooth transition.

Have some sugar free bubble gum, a chewing gum to change the habit and taste! Have a paper written " I win over this" ,in pocket to see all time, when you feel the urge! successful people have suffered a bit always, to win!

Well smoking is a BAD habbit. Maybe you are angry because you stoped smoking. Do your best to quit. I know you CAN do it.
