Well I can't give my kids much sweets because we are vegatarian but I dont really want to give them any except for special occasions like birthdays, great achievements and such. Sweets are not apart of my family traditions, my mother never let sweets into the house except for at Christmas and suprisingly or not I was the only one of all my friends never to have got a filling anyway do you plan to give sweets sparingly like me or like other parents to give sweets everytime the child crys or something else. I'd love to hear your responces thank you!

usually just at special occasions or when they are at gmas and gpas which isn't very often.
i don't keep a lot of sweets in the house, and my daughter who is 4 usually will go for an apple over a cookie anyways so i'm not to worried when she does have sweets.
Now that its cmas time though i love doing baking and giving things out as gifts so her and my other girl who is 13 months have had afew cookies and candys but i don't see it as a big deal at all because they stil eat all the good for you stuff too.

I grew up in a house where food was used as a way of showing love, and because of this, I developed a horrible food addiction. I worry about my kids developing a psychological attachment to food the way I did, so I don't save sweets for "special occasions." I let my kids have dessert everyday (and often dessert will consist of ONE piece of candy or ONE cookie). It is enough to satisfy their sweet tooths and on the occasions where I say "today we're not having dessert because it's too late at night (or whatever)" they never throw a fuss. I think making sweets into a huge issue is more likely to result in them becoming way more important to a kid than what they really should be, and by having a casual attitude with them, indulging your kids (in small ways) makes them less important to a kid.

My son (18mths) gets 'sweets' only on special occasions. He does get a cookie or 2 at church once a week but never candy. He was actually given a sucker once and I only let him lick it for a few minutes then distracted him and threw it away! I never buy sweets for the house but I do bake occasionally and it is always homemade from scratch. I bought him one of those small containers of mini m&m's for Christmas to go in his stocking and that is all the candy he is getting (and that will be rationed!)!

That depends on what you call "sweets". Do I give my kids cookies? Yes. Do I give them candy everyday? No. I do watch what they eat, and try to make sure that they have a balanced diet. We try to follow the "everything in moderation" rule at our house.

I do try to watch the pre-packaged snacks. Most of them lead people to believe they are healthy, yet they are loaded with sugar. I refuse to buy cereal bars for this reason.
