i find it interesting that "good christian people" share so many believes, yet they are so un-united. they teach to love one another, yet stab each other in the back. from all i've seen in religion it's all hypocritical bull ****. the thing i find most interesting is that they can't seem to open up to new ideas. they go to a "holy war" with terrorists and islamics because they are radicals but wouldn't you have to be a radical to be in a holy war in the first place? i know this isn't really a question so i guess really all i want is to know whether people agree or not since christians won't open their minds or try to learn from anything that's not in the bible and my fellow athiests will only answer positively because it's against christianity

midnight crier, don't you dare place yourself above me! you think that because of what you believe you know more than i do? you think i don't understand spirituality? i understand it more than you ever could. spirituality is not religious! once again your radical believes have screwed up, twisted, perverted, and mutated something you don't understand. you can think that you understand it all you want but you obviously don't because it has nothing do with religion. i admit, i am being a bit narrow minded though i try not to be. unfortunatly we all are to a certain extent because there is too much knowledge out there to possibly understand it all.

I'm a Christian... and I partially agree with you. Many Christians do this... spend so much time bickering and argueing with one another, judging others... it's a shame. And my answer would be that just because a religion teaches how things "should" be doesn't mean that people will get it right... we're all flawed and no one is perfect so we screw up.

But many Christians do open thier minds and learn other things and people still judge them and criticise them, thus doing the same thing... it's a cycle.

Dear Athiest with questions about division.
I don't know how well you know the Bible, or if you have studied it very much. If you are familiar with the Bible, you know that in the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus prayed that His followers would be as united as He and His Father. Now what has happened? Why do we have so many churches, and divisions within the churches?

From my point of view, I try to go by the Bible. I have a website www.harleypinon.com which I invite you to visit. On my homepage, I have questions such as "Are we there yet?" I really think we need to continue to search for the truth. What happened to to the truth? Why is it that we don't have the truth? Again, much of this I discuss on my website, but you are not there. The church drifted from the original teachings, and became corrupted by the influence of the Roman government until what we got was Roman Catholicism. Roman Catholicism became a mixture of teachings from the Old Testament, teachings from the New Testament, teaching from the Pagan world, and concepts from the Roman government.
The Bible became chained to the pulpit, with only the officials of the Catholic Church handing down what everyone should believe. Martin Luther, and other reformers and/or restorers, began to question many of the teachings of "the church." As different ones worked on the problem of getting back to the Bible, different ones extracted different errors.
Now the question is, why can't we all see the same errors? That's a good question, but remember, we don't have the original text any more. Sometimes, men with various views that differed from the text, corrupted the text by making some slight revisions which changed the way a passage of scripture might be interpreted. On my website, my wife, Carolyn and I discuss the doctrine of the Trinity. It may sound simple, but it isn't. Are there three Gods in One person, or is there only One God? My wife and I believe in only one God, but you might consult our site as to how these other beliefs came to be, and why we reject them. Actually, ours is more an argument against the Trinitarian teaching.
This is only one example, but before I close, let me ask you a question: Does it make any difference if there are three Gods in the "Godhead," or if there is only one God? To me, it does make a difference. If it makes a difference, perhaps you can begin to understand divisions among Christians, because many Christians think there is something seriously wrong with me if I do not speak of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, yet there is no where in scripture that these expressions are found.
I'm not sure if I have been of any help. I've only scratched the surface of one of the causes of so much confusion in the religious world today.
I'm sorry for the mess the Christian world is in, but I do not have a simple answer, or even a complex one. It includes many things, including the problem of tradtion, attitudes, and basic ignorance of the Bible.
This is my first response, so I don't know how this workds, but I think you are allowed to respond if you have comments or further questions.
May God bless you in your serch for truth. Oh, I nearly forgot you don't beleive in God. I have a good friend who is a former Atheist. I plan to start putting some of his videos on my website this week. His name is John Clayton, and he once was associated with Madeline Murry O'Hare. I think his website is www.DoesGodExist.com. I should have checked that address. One of his videos is why he left atheism. I'll try to get that video on my website this week
Thanks for asking. I hope I have been of some help.

Every religion has problems, and that includes Christianity. The most important thing that Jesus taught us was to love one another, and to respect eachother, and to appreciate what God has given us. I think that Christians get in trouble when they close their minds to other people or other ideas. Jesus was very liberal, and did not deny the situations of the time. He did not scorn the prostitute, or ignore the leper. He was also open to discussing ideas with men in the temple, and wanted to learn and grow. Even an athiest or a non-christian can say that Jesus is still a good role model for us to follow. I think that Christians need to look back in the bible and really understand what Jesus was all about.

hey so i'm a Christian and i know what your talking about. It seems like all Christians do is eat at other christians throats. But just because someone says that they're a Christian doesn't mean that they are one. But hey duh you probably already knew that. So you want to know the reason "Christians" are the way they are well this is it. In our society today the Christian religion has so many different sectons its hard to generalize. You've got the extremists who think that god has ordained everything thay do.(there kinda loopy). Then you've got other believers who are so freakin watered down they act, think, and behave just like everyone else. (they basically got no moral values). Then you've got other Christians who just want to do the right thing all the time no matter the criticism, or persecution they take. they want everyone to accept Jesus as their savior, not to "draw more people to their holy cause" but because they love everyone and want to see them in heaven. Believers like me don't wish to argue politics or faith or belief for the sake of arguing or proving others wrong but to teach and instruct so that everyone might come to faith in Christ Jesus. Now i know what your thinking, "this persons retarded full of so much crap!" right? Well let me tell ya I've been a Chistian for a while and I've experienced the love and peace and mercy of my God and Savior and its the best most amazing experience of my life, and i wouldn't trade it for anything. God has totaly changed my life from an angry violent person to a loving, caring, sensitive person, and He can change your life too. But only if you'll let him.

peace- Matt

P.S. my sister was on this site and didn't know how to answer your question so she called me to the computer. Hope i answered it enough for you.

First, I am a part of the Body of Christ, and I stab nobody in the back. If there is someone that claims to be a part of the Body of Christ, and they are believing false doctrine, then it my DUTY to try to correct them, out of love, for their edification. I do not expect you to understand this.
Second, I go to war with nobody. If there is a "holy" war, God will fight it and win, on His own terms, in His own time. This is coming soon, so be sure to pay close attention.
Third, and last, the Bible is the word of God, and I shall take my instruction from it, where my salvation is concerned, regardless of what you think, and once again, I do not expect you to understand, for the word is spiritual, and you can not understand it, nor are you able to understand it, being that you are carnal minded.
Thanks for the inquiry, and the two points. Merry CHRISTmas.

Fighting to establish Democracy in another country is a Holy War?

Religion isn't hypocritical, but some of the membership is comprised of hypocrites.

And God made us all unique. That means we have different life experiences to influence our worship and interpretation (even though it shouldn't - in a perfect world)

And you say we are closed minded? Exactly how is that the case when we believe in what you say you have proof does not exist? Seems we are the ones with the open minds ...

What I got from this was that you think all Christians are close minded, hypocrtical, backstabbing war mongers. You expect all athesists to agree with you simply because your rant is anti-Christian.................

Would you kindly explain, just what it is that you would like explained from a Christian's viewpoint?

ps......just so you know, my spiritual knowledge comes from the Bible, all else was learned elsewhere, a "closed mind" learns nothing.

First of all, please don't judge Christianity by the people. All people are bad. The bible and common sense tells us that none of us are good - not even one. All true Christians have already admitted that they are bad people before God Himself. Also, MANY people that claim to be Christians are not.

Judge Christianity by the merits of Christ himself. He is the only person that has ever lived life the way that we are all supposed to. One of the best places to get to know Christ is the Gospel of John.
