The owner does not want to buy tire before selling it. Some people told me not to buy car without back-up tire. But why? Does the absence of backup tire mean something?

The owner is not required to provide a spare tire, and in this case he is unwilling to do so I have sold many cars that I do not know if they had a spare tire or not I never looked!

Call a local tire dealer or scrapyard to see what it would cost to purchase a tire and rim. I think you will find that it is not costly enough to be a deal breaker!

I have an SUV where the tire is on the outside. I removed it to save weight and improve visibility. I only drive local plus I have AAA. I have read that there are a few new cars coming out that do not have spare tires. I assume for the same reason I have chosen. Look up the VW R32. I have also read the Honda Accord Hybrid does not have a spare. Only a fix kit.

Just make sure to check what other tire changing tools are or are not present. You'll need a lug nut wrench, jack and on some SUVs a crank for lowering the spare from underneath the rear part of the SUV. My sister's truck had only the spare but all the tools were missing, just one of these items makes all the rest worthless if you still can't change your tire. All in all, it can be used as a bargaining chip when haggling for the price... depending how steep the price is. If the price is already a bargain basement low, don't be a cheapo and shoot yourself in the foot. You can probably acquire all these pieces relatively cheap at a junk yard or by someone who is parting out their vehicle.

A spare tire, or lack of it shouldn't be the major factor in buying a car. Is it a good car for a good price? You can always get a spare tire later.

If the car itself is a good deal and checks out then go for it. You can always buy a spare tire/rim off ebay or from your local used wheel/tire shop or a junkyard. But if its a great deal don't pass it up becaue of a missing donut.

Man, if you want the car, buy it. Go down the street and get you a spare at the local tire store . Just don't go far before you do. Walking to get one is not acceptable. Good luck.

Do you mean a spare tire? If so, you need to have one. You do not want to be in the middle of nowhere w/o one. The current owner of the car doesn't want to deal with it. That's all.

If the price is right for the car you want to buy, then go for it..You can always pick-up a spare tire from a junkyard for a reasonable price.....

Just depends. If the car is great otherwise and the price is good, who cares. Otherwise it's just another bargaining point. If you think he doesn't have any other offers, say you'll take it if he throws int he tire... otherwise just forget it. It's not good to get into a business agreement with someone unable to budge over something so trivial.
