Capable of playing Playstation 2 and Playstation games? Are they interchangable like they've always been?? That sure would be nice.

Some things are, some are not. And from what I have heard, that which IS compatible, is not rendered very well.

All of the PS3's can play both PS1 and PS2 games except for the 40GB PS3.

The 20GB and 60GB PS3 can play nearly all PS1 and PS2 games. The 20GB and 60GB models have been discontinued.

The 80GB PS3 can play about 75-80% of PS1 and PS2 games, it can't play all of them like the 20GB and 60GB PS3 because it uses software emulation to be backward compatible. The 20GB and 60GB PS3's use the Emotion Engine hardware and they can play nearly all of the PS1 and PS2 game.

Depends on which model it is. There are three models: the 60gb (which is the first one that was released, and is pretty much non existent now 'cuz they stopped making them), the 40gb and the 80gb. The 40gb does not play PS2 games. The others I believe play PS1 and PS2 games. (mine is a 60gb model and it plays them all!)

all models can play playstation 1 games.

20gb and 60gb ps3 can play 95% of your ps2 games by using hardware emotion engine, the same chip on the ps2 system.

80gb ps3 can play 75% of your ps2 games by using software emulation, which means that you can many, but all as the 60gb and 20gb.

40gb cannot play ps2 games at all, because they removed the hardware and software.
