Wrong.
It's tribal mentality.
"I can't like you because you belong to blah, blah, blah...".

Apparently there are two different areas of the brain which deal with decision making - One is based on emotion, the other is based on reason. We all feel the same kind of emotions (distress at the thought of our own mortality, the desire for an easier life etc.) and in some people these translate into wishful thinking (i.e. religious belief), but in rational people the other part of the brain overrides these emotional responses and we come to the conclusion that things don't become real just because we wish they would.

However, it is possible for individuals to change, and I think this does happen sometimes when people realise that the rational way of understanding reality is preferable (or the other way round). Theists and atheists exchanging views can cause this to happen.

I'm a theist. I don't ignore atheists. I listen to them. I frequently engage in dialogue with atheists, both online and in my daily life. As for atheists' values being different, how so? I find myself aligned with my atheist friends on many issues. That's because our values just aren't that different. The only major difference between myself and the atheists is that I believe in God, and they don't. Aside from that, we often want many of the same things. We're all human beings.

I'm an atheist, but I absolutely do not close the door on any possibilities. It's best to keep yourself very open-minded, which is why Christians and other followers of various religions look down upon us. For them, it's best not to doubt. For us, it's the best thing you can do. Doubting religion is what got me to where I am now, and I'm so happy that I did it. Everything seems to make more sense, and I have better morals and values than I did before, actually. I don't ignore anyone, unless I have reason to. I love hearing what people have to say, as long as they can be as open-minded as I am.

values have nothing to do with it. Many atheists are just as moral as many self proclaimed Christians. It is human nature to justify your own belief. You only change your mind when you believe you've come to a rational conclusion on your own. That only happens after all rationalizing of the facts is exhaused. This is why we have religion, the same opposing political partys that last for generations, and war.

Is there an option (c)?

Obviously, atheists come here to confront theists, and vice versa...so in R&S, at least, we do everything but ignore one another.

You're not right. We Atheists only wish we could ignore theists. They make it impossible by putting their dogma into our laws.

I don't ignore theists. As a citizen of the Christian dominated USA and someone who has been raised in a mostly Christian family, it would be nearly impossible for me to ignore theists. I've analyzed their arguments, posed many questions of them and listened to their answers, but I still think its BS.

Actually, the positions of athieism and theism are identical.

Both of them suggest definitive truth on a subject that is, by definition, beyond the capacities of human awareness. If God transcends our ability to comprehend, then to suggest that God IS or IS NOT are both equally unsupportable positions.

Because people have different beliefs, and they don't want to listen to other peoples beliefs in fear that they might be right. In general people hate to lose, and therefore don't want to be proven wrong by others.

That or their just fed up with listing to what they believe to be the BS that is the other groups beliefs...

But idk, because im atheist and i have no problem listening to other peoples thoughts oponions or belifes..

Fools, give no heed to understanding, but Love to speak their own opp ions. I speak of all people. Your a idiot if you speak about Athieasts yet have no understanding towards them, your a idiot if your a Athieast and speak about faiths in which you have no understanding of it. Which I see Dogmatic people are on all sides of the field.
