Just because atheists don't believe in any god doesn't mean that we don't share sympathies with the nobler aspirations found in some religions.

The problem is that many believers insist that such nobility can only come from god. Atheists know that we are the author of our own moral and ethical lives. We know that we are are responsible for taking care of our children and each other. We don't need a deity to encourage such action. And we feel better for it.

Another problem with quoting scripture is that it's a very mixed bag. Check out Leviticus or parts of Paul's teachings in the NT if you don't believe me. You have to separate the wheat from the chaff, so why bother with the dusty scriptures when you need to use your own moral compass in the end anyway?

I completely disagree with that quote.

1. I don't love everyone. I think doing that diminishing the value of love and anyone claiming that the love everyone is a liar.

2. Love does come from any god, it comes from the hearts of humans. Saying "god is love" is an insult.

3. I do know love and I'm an atheist.

I love, but I do not know God. So, I think that's a load of Christian bull, sorry.

My love don't come from an invisible sky critter.

That is my favourite bible quote, I always use it on my Valentine's Day cards, and I also write god in lowercase. I think more Christians should live by it. Too bad I hear the ones condemning homosexuals to hell more often....

Merry Xmas

So now I can't love because I don't believe in fairy tales?

Sheesh. And I thought it was a free country. First you guys try to control who I love, then my reproductive system, and now my emotions entirely?!

Stupid.

I think that throwing bible quotes at non-believers is like yelling at the back of a deaf person. Neither makes much of an impression.

Atheists are just as capable of love as any godist.

I think it's literature.
And like all literature (good literature), it has meaning behind it.
And god's a character in a book.
and love is love.
