I have read up on them and I had dogs my whole life growing up. I just never had one as a puppy we always took in strays or from the shelter .I just have heard 6 weeks or you have to wait until they are 12 weeks. Just curious if anyone knew for a fact when it was.

Well, puppies should not be leaving their mother and siblings until 8 wks at the earliest. And, 8 wks is the time for the first vaccination. Then it's repeated at 12 wks and 16 wks.

They should NOT get any vaccinations until they are 8 weeks old. Giving vaccinations earlier then this interfers with natural immunity, suppressed the immune system, makes them more suseptible to the very illnesses that the vaccines are suppose to protect against and can cause future problems with vaccinations.Vaccinations are given at 8, 12 & 16 weeks of age for distemper/parvo and at 20 weeks for rabies. Then a year later they will receive boosters and will be set for 3 years after that.
Puppies should NEVER get more then a 3 vaccine series. ALL vets in the US have been informed of the protocol and should be adhering to it.
The above is the recommendations from the AAHA/AVMA and al l27 vet schools.
If you want to know more about vaccinations check out Dr Jean Dodds, Dr Ron Schultz sites. Also there is a great article on vaccinations in the Nov 2006 Whole Dog Journal.

The first set of "puppy shots" is when they are 6 to 8 weeks old.

It can depend on your veterinarian's individual practice, but generally between 7 and 8 weeks is when a puppy gets their first set of vaccinations.
Find out more about recommended vaccination schedules at the url below http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/puppy-shots.html

pups should be getting first shots by the breeder at 6 weeks. they should go to the new homeat 8-10 weeks htey should get their other booster shots at 9 and 12 weeks old.
They should have also been wormed along with mom at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks old.
they then should get rabies shot at 4 months old and be fixed at 5-6 months old

Puppies need to vaccinated right after they are weaned so that they will be fully protected after the mothers Immunity wears off. If you get the pups at 8 weeks, they need to be vaccinated at that time. But they can also be vaccinated as early as 6 weeks old.

They should have at least 2 sets of shots before you ever get them. 1st at 5 weeks and 2nd at 8 weeks. After that it is 4 months, 6 months and 1 year. Call your vet to verify. Also, within 24 hours of getting the puppies, take them to the vet for a well puppy check up to make sure they are healthy.
Good luck.

Your vet will help you put together a vaccination schedule for your little guys. Along with rabies and distemper, be sure to get them done for parvo.
