should i shoot heavy aluminiums? my dad said they penetrate more. he said even if you throw a wiffle ball 80 mph and a baseball 60 what would hurt more and its obviously the baseball so is it better to have flat-shooting carbons or heavy aluminiums. and can you tell me the exact arrows to buy

Shooting 70 pounds and keeping your shots under 30 yards, penetration won't be a problem with either aluminum or carbon arrows. Your dad is correct to a point. A slower, heavier arrow will penetrate more than a faster, lighter arrow if the kinetic energy is higher. To find ft/lbs of kinetic energy multiply the weight of the arrow (in grains) by the arrow speed squared (in feet per second) and divide the answer by 450,240 and that will give you your genetic energy. Another factor is drag. A smaller diameter carbon will have less drag going through the deer than a bigger diameter aluminum. I've always used aluminum arrows and have had good success with them so I've seen no need to change to carbon. Just keep your broad-heads sharp, keep your shots in the vitals and you'll be able to take deer, bear, elk, etc. with the set-up you are shooting. Good luck with your hunting.

I think this is really your preference. I prefer carbon arrows because I have just had better luck shooting with them. For a little more money you can get a carbon/alluminum arrow. Check out the Easton Axis. They are a bit on the expensive side, but I love them. They shoot fast, flat and true. Good hunting

I'd go with the carbon arrows.
If you want more weight/penetration,
you can go up a notch in point weight.
(Might mean retuning the bow though.)
Do be careful, if that arrow is broken,
to get all those fibers out of the meat.
