Yes. Taking silverware from a restaurant proves that you didn't take the time to go & buy that person silverware. Second of all, imagine how many customers have touched & ate their food with that silverware. Aside from the gift being of bad taste, stealing silverware from a restaurant is not only dishonest but you can go to jail for stealing.

I don't know what you mean by 'bad taste' but stealing from a restaurant is pretty bad. (but funny) My papi stole a bowl from a Mexican restaurant one time, because they wouldn't give us a to-go box :)
If you (or whoever) wanted the silverware, you (or whoever) could have asked the restaurant where you could have got it from and I'm pretty sure they would've told you.
But I know I would not want a stolen item as a gift. That defeats the whole purpose.
I hope it wasn't a Christmas Present! :)

Yes it is bad taste. Taking silverware is stealing. If you give it to anyone else you have them made them an accessory to your crime.

It's a crime to steal hotel silverware. Crime is always in bad taste. Proof: Jail food tastes real bad, especially compared to hotel food. :-)

Only if it came from Wendy's. On second thought yes it is in dad taste and the person you give it too is guilty of receiving stolen property (some restaurants have them Lazar engraved for this reason)

That depends on how many sets you stole. It would be nice to give at least a 4 place setting. If it's a college student, then a mismatched set from various restaurants would be cool.

Tricking someone into receiving stolen property would definitely be in bad taste.

Yes, it absolutely is.
First of all, it IS a crime, and it's wrong.
But let's pretend it wan't a crime:
would you give your friend silverware that has been used by thousands of strangers?
