The set needs to be degaussed. Sets have a degaussing coil which operates when the set is first turned on; turn the set on and off a few times and see if this helps. If not, you will need to use a degaussing coil; these are available at television supply stores.

First of all, pimp slap and yell at friend.
Second, you're screwed. The tv is going to have to be degaussed. This usually costs around $100.00. Only professionals have the equipment to do it. Or you can buy coil yourself and degauss it.
Competing magnetic fields are very bad for tvs

omg... that pretty much ruins your tv due to electromagnetic attractions. there is no way to fix that except buying a new tv. NEVER DO THAT AGAIN.
