I take Spanish III Honors in high school, and I need a little help. Right now, we're doing the imperfect and preterite tenses. Does anyone know any websites that offer Spanish help? Also, I will give an example of a pass tense sentence, and can somebody tell me what's wrong with it b/c my Spanish teacher said it was wrong and she wouldn't help me b/c she said I should know by now? Here it is:
- Ayer, mi madre y yo fuimos al cine.
- Yesterday, my mom and I went to the movies.

I think
Ayer mi madre y yo fuimos al cine. is OK except for the comma.
I can't see anything wrong except for that so I wonder if this was part of a dialog or in a certain context which required a different tense.
Again, as a sentence it's OK, I don't know as part of a whole.

"Mi madre y yo fuimos al cine ayer" is better ortographically written because in Spanish differently from English, the adverb is put after the verb not before.

oooh! I was stumped, all the offers above me are correct, the word order isn't the problem. There is no accent necessary, not as you have written it, but the guy who mentioned that tipped me off.
In many countries, you don't refer to your "madre". You refer to her as "mam'a". That apostrophe is an accent on the a.
Has your teacher ever spoken of this? In some countries, madre is a nasty term or an insult. I agree, she's being kinda picky, because in some countries, that's okay.
It certainly isn't that you got the tense or the form wrong.

I see nothing wrong with your sentence.
Maybe your teacher is objecting to the use
of "madre" here. In spoken Spanish you would
usually use mamá because madre is associated
with too many rude expressions.
For example, ¡Tu madre! = S c r e w you!
