Money - is truly the best gift. They can spend it anyway they want!

Well do they have everything they need for their new home? Might want to try to give a gift that can be a long term item, say a wooden chest for them to use in their travels (like a hope chest box to pack all their wedding items).

May even be an idea to get the item from Australia (say online) and when they arrive, your gift is there waiting.. that would also help the shipping fees.

Other ideas:

- a blanket/bed set (if you know what size)
- candles with pillars
- photo frames (and one can have a pic of you & your friend)

good luck.

I understand where you coming from not wanting to give money. However with them moving out of the country right after the wedding money seems like you best option. If you give them a gift they will either have to carry it home with them or spend money to have it shipped.

Are they going on a honeymoon? If they are you could call the hotel they are staying at and have a bottle of champagne sent to their room or arrange for some other type of extra service ie if it is a spa hotel you get them his and her massage or pay for their meal at the hotel resturant.

Look at their registry.

Or $50 is a good round number for me.

How close is the friend?

I'd just give cash, as they are moving to Australia, and cash would be better moved than items.

Do they have nice luggage? You could get them that or an accessory to luggage. Something that is helpful when you are traveling.
