My mother was abused and she had a horrible life. She recently found a game called Second Life. But that's just it; it's not her second life, it's become her first life. She has negglected everything, including her personal hygene. I lived with her, and being a young kid, I suffered from this too. She gave up on everything to the point where I was taken to a foster home. She was depressed, and she is masking her pain. In this game, she is perfect. Blonde, big busted, rich, and 23 again. She gets mad when we call it a game, she says, " It's not a game, they're real people. In her eyes, she doesn't have a peoblem, this game allowed her to be perfect, and Christian. No real problems. I can understand why she would feel like that, but It makes me feel like I'm not wanted because she doesn't care for me. She can never get her nose out of the screen long enough to even come and watch me get baptised. How can she get help? Is there anything I can do ? PLease help- I want my mommy back.

Whatever
boo hoo
At least she is enjoying her life now
from the looks of your post you yourself are addicted to something so you can relate
Real life is harsh and if she has found something to enlighten herself then yay
this just sounds like somebody with an overactive imagination
and the people gullible enough to believe that your mother doesn't wash herself
maybe your christian upbringing has forced her into looking for more out of life then heaven or hell.
Maybe she is trying to make an income
some people do waste their entire second life
I have seen it
I for one operate on a continued exploration of my talents
maybe she is discovering more about herself everyday
this is something you need to communicate to her
tell her to spend a half hour a day with you talking.

Thats really sad. I just have to say something.
Since the majority of people using second life are NOT
giving up on their first lives, then second life is not the problem. Just as jesus made wine but the abuse of the wine is always the cause of sadness. The abuse comes from deep within. Sounds like second life was her choice of escape.

Anyone can sign up for a second life. Even self destructive people. Depressed people looking for a last chance. This is so sad to me and I hope your mother can see what she is doing. People can convince themselves that everything is okay when it is not. My advice is that you communicate EXACTLY what it is that hurts you about it. Just as you did in this question. Repetitive insisting of what the issue is may open her eyes to it. I hope so for her sake and yours.

But second life is filled with business people, good parents, creative artists and musicians, politicians, and so much more.

Some people take "second life" literaly. The creator of second life never meant it that way. He is seen in interviews saying it was meant as a new way to communicate and do business like the phone, internet, fax.

Just like people can use the internet, gambling, alchohol in the wrong self destructive way, so can they use second life.

Communication can solve almost anything. Tell her you think it could mean the end of a real life relationship. I advise a letter because instead of being on the defensive she can read your thoughts and absorb them. Good luck!! *hugs*

here is a video about religion online in second life from NBC. Thought it was interesting.

PS I'm healthy and happy in my real life and I still see the value of real human contact, family, and health.

I hope the majority of people in second life are also...
some video clips from my second life....

Also I felt this was important to write because my mother lives two states away and second life helps us stay connected. we can chat and shop and build together when we are too far away in real life....

Yeap, my brother whole life is centered around that game and he rarely comes out of his room. He hasn't worked in four years and is collecting disability. I guess the game helps him cope with life even though it's not reality. Your mom needs to get counseling. Try to talk to her and in the meantime talk to relatives and friends and see if they can help you with your mom. Good Luck!

that's kinda sad, how your mother is to involved in a game and not in her own daughters life.. well, i think you should confront her, you know tell her how you feel? and if that doesnt work you can always get a baseball bat and smash the computer.
