Most christians aknowledge that it has nothing to do with an actuall birth date.
Most even seem to understand that December 25th was origially a pagan celebration of the winter solstice and that the Romans ended up hijacking the celebration to help them push christianity onto the masses (ie: take an existing pagan festival and rebadge it as a christiasn festival so you can say "Look at all the people celebrating on our newly created holy day!).
So, with this being the case, why do christians keep talking about the need to return to the true meaning of Christmas?
Wouldn't that mean looking at why people originally held celebrations on Dec 25th? .....which certainly had nothing to do with Jesus.
If they want to put true meaning into celebrating the birth of their saviour, shouldn't they do it on a day that doesn't conflict which much older celebrations and festivities?
Why can't Dec 25th just be seen a time to celebrate goodwill among people of all races and backgrounds?

Daisy Indigo.......for me as well. I just wish the christian faiths didn't try to hijack it as being their turf. Other cultures might be more prepared to allow it to become a universal celebration if the christians let it go a little bit.

2000 years of lying to themselves about Jesus birthdate and ignoring the fact that Constantine and his cronies arbitrarily chose the date to help convert the Pagans.

I do NOT feel as if I have ownership of the date or the celebrations. If you have been here for the past week or so, you would see that we have been badered, harrassed, and told we have no business even celebrating on December 25.
The true meaning of Christmas to me means that Jesus was born...WHENEVER....and His birth is what my celebration is all about. So you want to change the date of Christmas.....cool...if it is that important to you, get things started. Find out how to go about changing Christmas.
Good luck.
I agree about Dec 25 being a time of peace and goodwill. Maybe you could help this become a reality by not attacking ALL Christians over this and letting it go rather than picking at straws.
If you are going to complain, come up with a plan to set into motion the changes you want to see.

Even though Jesus was not born on dec 25, it is the day chosen to celebrate His birth. Anyone regardless of race can celebrate His birthday as well.

it seems that they cant celebrate if someone else is using that day also-kind of a narrow view i do think-if they knew that if what they wanted would actually remove jesus from what they were celebrating i do think that there would be a different tune being sung----i also have to wonder how many crying that are refusing and returning the gifts they receive in there return to the real reason for christmas----just my thoughts---smile and enjoy the night

Missing link, perhaps a chink in your armor.
The other side of the argument would be that of censorship of the birth of Jesus.
So why is the "Happy Holidays" movement so persistent if this is not the case?
Come on, no more prayer in school, no ten commandments in public, get real.

Christianity and Islam both have more egocentrism built into them than any other religions I'm aware of.
