There is only the usual risk for infection if you don't keep the piercing clean. So wash it as you're directed and that should be just fine. Of course it hurts. Its a piercing. It isn't unbearable or anything to worry about, but you can count on it hurting a bit. They will also be a little sore to heal and will need special attention paid not to catch, rub or bump them on anything. No snagging them on things ever again. So if you're clumsy or just can't remember to keep an eye on such things, hip piercings are not for you.

The problem with hip piercings is that they are incredibly likely to reject. Surface piercings can be touchy and prone to rejection in the first place, but putting them in that area puts them at even more risk. Since your hips are rubbed by so many articles of clothing, bumped into most counters, folded up when you ride in the car, etc they are even more likely to grow out. Stress on a surface piercing leads to rejection and hips are a high-stress area due to all the friction and movement.

If you find an amazing piercer who does the piercings just right, you may be able to keep them. Much more likely is that you will find an awesome piercer, do everything right, take the best care of them you can, and then after a couple of years of seeming to be ok they will decide to migrate out. Such is the life of surface piercings.

If you like the look and can find a piercer in your area who is really talented with surface piercings, give it a try. Keep in mind though that hip piercings are an experiment to enjoy while you have them. Don't get your heart all set on having them the rest of your life, but enjoy them while they are there.

Anytime you put something into your body, your apt to get an infection, sometimes a staph can be really cruel. Most states are now rethinking their laws and legal obligations for tattooing and piercing due to this.
Think of that piercing going in and out and the bacteria it's moving with it. Have you ever seen a slide with a (agar) bacteria that has grown on it, I'd bet you'd change your mind in a hurry.

I've seen many youngsters come into the ER with tongues so swollen they can't talk and need help. The piercing has to be taken out through surgery.
Ears so badly deformed they have to have plastic surgery and this is only a couple of things. We won't get into the nipples and labia and what can happen there.

You do what you have to but, you asked, I'm telling.
