I think im going to get me one but im just not sure if you have to pay monthly like you do for xm raido and stuff

No you don't. You may have to buy map updates because new towns and roads appear every year, but I have been using the pre-installed maps for the last three years.

No, the come with pre loaded pionts of interest and all the maps. You put in your favorites.
You only pay for services like xm radio,onstar features.

no BUT you usually have to pay to download decent maps from the manufacturer which is something nobody will tell you. also another dirty secret is that the maps are INCOMPATIBLE between brands usually so you have to stick with a brand typically to save money. in addition some maps will only work on one device and not even two of the same brand.

No, not for standard GPS, if you want full feature,traffic alerts, construction delays. Those are optional, you pay for.
