Hepatitis C is spread only through blood to blood contact. You cannot get it through casual contact, and rarely through sexual contact. There are many couples where one partner has Hep c (HCV) , and the other partner is not infected. HCV is spread by anything where blood to blood contact can occur, such as IV drug use even if only one time, blood transfusions before 1992, tattoos, piercings, accidental needlesticks or blood exposure by people working in the medical field, mother to child transmission (only less than 5%), etc.
I hope this helps calm your fears. Education is powerful; a lot of people know nothing about HCV and how it's spread, yet there are over 4 million people in the US with HCV. Best wishes to you.

I don't know who gave Cindy and Rose a thumbs down but they are the only two giving you correct information. Hepatitis C is only spread by blood to blood contact. Also the person who said their friend had Hepatitis C and D is MISTAKEN because you cannot have Hep D without having Hep B. It piggy backs off Hep B only. Knowledge IS power. Educate yourselves. Everyone should get tested for Hepatitis C. It is only spread blood to blood but you can pick it up at the beauty parlor or the barber shop or even through some medical procedures if not sterilized correctly as Hep C can live IN the air on surfaces for up to 4 plus days. It is NOT an STD as some have led you to believe. You can only get it having sex if you are exchanging blood during sex. Doesn't anyone ever look up previous answers??

No, you can't, unless you both had open bleeding sores on your lips. Hepatitis c is even very difficult to pass through sex...It's a bloodborne disease and is passed from blood to blood contact.
You can get it from sharing a razor, a needle, or anything that gets blood on it...even a straw when snorting drugs, because unlike HIV, hepatitis can live a very long time outside the human body...up to 30 days. Why don't you just ask him if he has it, and then get the facts. It is a treatable disease now, although tx. is very expensive and consists of up to 48 weeks of chemotherapy with a daily drug coctail. I've been cured for 5 years now!

Hepatitis C is contracted through blood contact and sometimes sexual intercourse. It is highly unlikely that you are at risk. However if you are concerned you should get tested.

Transfered through blood, urin and saliva.
Go get tested and treatment to be safer.
My brother got Hep C and D traced back to a sewer cleaning job. the also had HIV there. so he must be tested for life for that.
This is what our local health dept is telling us and requiring of us.
