It's brand new. I've never even been able to use it because I can't get it to work. I've had two differant men look at the wiring and they swear it's hooked up right. I even returned my wires and bought new ones because I thought the wiring might have been bad. It will not play home-made cds/dvds or regular movie dvds. It also will not play regular movie vhs's. The only thing I can get it to play is a recorded vhs. When I try to play anything else it flashes nonstop so you cannot even see the picture. Sometimes I hear the audio from the movie sometimes I hear it from the direct tv. Somebody please tell me how to fix it. Could it be on some wrong setting or something? I've searched through the manual (vigorously through the trouble shooting manual) and I cannot find anything! Help!

Also I know the dvd recorder isn't actually bad because I bought one that did the same thing so I assumed it was bad and I returned it. Then I bought a second one (the one I have now) and it's doing the same thing. I must have something set up wrong.... any idea?
