When you're on the front lines in a war, often the people in your immediate unit become like a family to you. You live together, you sleep together, you work together. If someone rushed your mom or boyfriend them, what would be your reaction? Yeah, you might not like the idea of killing someone, but in that split second, you're not thinking about that. The only thing you know is that someone you care deeply about is in danger.

There are a LOT of jobs in the military that never require killing anyone or fighting on the front lines though. I think the Department of Defense, which oversees the five branches of the American military, has about 2,000,000 people working for them. Only 4,000 of their employees have lost their lives in the most recent conflict.

By the way, the little out-of-the-way country of Iceland also does not have a military -- there was a NATO base there until last summer.

Japan does have an army. It is just limited to under 100,000 men and women. If you fly jets you will kill people hundreds at a time. You dont have what it takes to be in the military if you are already thinking like that. But that is all right. Not everyone is cut out for this kinda thing

The Swiss do have an army also, and honestly, I wouldn't screw with the Swiss. I've had the pleasure of training with some Swiss Guards, and their training is as difficult as anything I have ever seen, on par with SAS, seals and the like. As for that white flag, I would look towards the French for that.

you want to fly jets, so you can't see the people you kill, huh?
there comes a time in your life when you have to make a decision. all those infantrymen don't go, wanting to kill some one. you kill or be killed.
