Happy Birthday!!! First, bathe him. It is OK to use specially formulated perfume for dogs, but DO NOT use perfume intended for people. Also, ear infections as well as anal glands and if it's a dog that has looser skin, (Pug, Chinese Shar-Pei, etc.) that can cause odors, too. The folds of the skin must be kept clean and dry.

Most dogs LOVE the bath!!! Puppies are playful in the water. Giving him the bath is the only way to get rid of the smell without using something bad on him. Fill the bathtub with warm water about a couple inches. Then use a cup to rinse him with. Have an extra towel because he will shake the water all over but it's fun! If you have a couple small rubber duckies or a plastic boat he'll be tickled! My mom has 3 dogs, 3 cats & I bathe them all. We have had animals all our lives & my kids have them. Just make sure he uses the bathroom 1st so you don't have to worry about him being damp in the cold outside. Some dogs love the hair dryer & some don't. That is a judgement call on your part. If you sit on the floor with the dryer on low heat & low power & pretend to use it on yourself you can make it seem like a fun game & get them to let you dry them with it. The younger you start them the easier it is to do later because you've trained them that this is normal. You don't need dog shampoo. You can use baby shampoo or dove even. Puppies love peanut butter if you ever have to give him medicine, hide the pill in peanut butter > it's awesome! Puppies are a friend for life! Congratulations & Happy Birthday!
Hope this helps.

If she was recently spayed, is it possible that Sadie Bear has an infection in her spay incision? Check it to see if it looks really red around the edges, and possibly does the incision area smell? The anal glands are a very good suggestion. She would likely do the butt-scootin' boogie (drag her bottom on the floor) if her anal glands are impacted. If she does this, she should be seen at the vet. Another possibility would be her breath. Is it her breath that smells icky? If it is, take her back to the vet for a de-worming. Don't de-worm your puppy at home, because the de-worming medicines available are not all safe to give to various sized dogs, and you have to know what parasite you are trying to kill (so you'd have to know to pick the correct medicine). It is much better to have your vet do the de-worming. While you are talking to your vet about de-worming, ask about heart worm medicine. If your little friend is kept heathy and free of parasites, she will be more active and make better use of the good food that you feed her. If you gave your girl a bath and it got rid of the smell, then that should be fine. The stitch area won't be germ-free no matter what, but you are smart to be as careful with it as possible. In the end, if you have any questions at all, you should call your vet. Most vets will answer questions over the phone, especially about animals they recently saw for an examination or procedure such as your puppy had. Enjoy your little friend!

I remember my puppies first bath... she was scared, and shook a lot, but she has definitely not been scarred for life. She is fine! On her first bath, I filled the tub with lukewarn water and got in with her. (Bathing suit of course) I fed her lots of treats while I pet her and spoke softly to her. I made it as quick as possible and wrapped her up like a baby in a towel afterwards. When I did this, she knew that I loved her and wasn't scarred for life. Your puppy will need to take a bath sometime or the other, or else she will be covered with fleas, and you dont want that. Another alternative is the shower. I you have a shower head that you can pull out, put in on your dog at low power. It wont be threatening to him at all. Dont be scared about this, just clean your dog. Besides, most dogs like water anyway. Good Luck!!! Make your puppy a happy puppy...............give him a bath! Good luck!

You need to give the puppy a bath. Get some puppy shampoo from Petsmart. You want to start giving the puppy a bath while it is little to get him used to it so that it makes bath time easier for later on in life. The more you subject him to while he is little, the better the whole grooming process will be later on. Do not bathe him too often as you can dry out his skin.
Good luck with your new puppy and happy birthday.

Give it a bath. It will not scar him for life. I named my dog whinny Wilbur if that is any indication of how much of a timid baby he is. He cries if his toy is to close to the table and he can handle a bath. Get dog shampoo and make sure the water is warm. I use a water pitcher to rinse him or a hand sprayer. I put him in the sink. He only weighs seven pounds and he doesn't freak out as much as he does in the tub. Good luck

A bath will not scar the puppy emotionally, if you do it right. Other than that, you can purchase water-less shampoo, which is basically a powder that you rub onto the puppy.

Just give your puppy a bath, fill a tub with water and just gently set him in. Gently splash some water on him so that he's wet and rub the shampoo on it, after that, rinse. That bath will not scar him for life.

YOu would be best giving your pup a bath. It's best tostart at a young age. Just talk to him and do it slowly.Just make sure you don't get water in the eyes or nose.
Get a puppy shampoo and then get Downy Fabric Softner and put an inch in a gallon of water and use it as a conditioner. ( This was taught to me when I went to the NY school of Dog Grooming)
Either thoroughly towel dry or blow dry.
Your pup will be fine I start bathing mine at 4 weeks old.

Give your dog a bath! It wont scare him for life!! MIne get a bath every couple of weeks and they are just fine, but i could not live with them if it wasent for a bath. Try a pet shampoo with oatmeal in it or you can use baby shampoo or even Dove Body soap!
