sorry to hear from all those haters...Joel is a down to earth person.I have been to many of the church services.
They offer something to everyone, from the youth ,singles, adults and the elderly.
He will take time after every church service to meet and greet the visitors. If it takes two hours so be it.He will stay as long as there are people there.

Being very happy and spiritually optimistic is fine ! A big mega-church needs a big mega slick and good-looking husband and wife team. If they were not running a church, they might be running a slick, late-night TV talk show.
Personally I prefer small Home Family Spiritual Christian Fellowship Groups with "the priesthood of all believers". When the groups invite more friends and neighbors and get past about ten or twelve humans, they best should split into two or three smaller groups.
Small groups allow each member to get to know each other well, and to train many more ambassadors and disciples of and for Jesus Christ who then go out and share the Good News of our living eternal sonship with God our loving and merciful Father !
Peace and progress,
Brother Dave, a Jesusonian Christian Truthist

I think Joel Osteen is a good motivational speaker. I don't know if a person can really be too happy, but he sure portrays a positive attitude to his listeners and wants them to experience what he's experienced. I've never been to the "biggest church in America", so I don't know if he really preaches the Gospel to the lost and tells them they need to repent of their sins and ask for forgiveness from Christ. If he doesn't do this, then all I have to say is that God is his judge.

There is nothing wrong with being optimisitc, BUT, he doens't preach God's word. He never, never speaks as Jesus speaks. He doesn't speak of sin, judgment, holiness, righteousness, hell, or repentance. Those are critical to salvation. All he is doing is fulfilling the prophesies in 2 Timothy 4:3 about preachers only telling people what they want to hear, and not the truth. God isn't this fuzzy warm guy in the sky, He's angry with humanity, and offers His uncondional love through Jesus Christ if we REPENT and trust in Jesus. Then He can transform our hearts. But not this "God will make your life great" stuff. Actually quite the opposite. The Bible promises 4 things when you become a Christian . . . 1)Tempation 2) Tribulation 3) Persecution 4) Eternal Life. Not money, "success", benefits, and worldly stuff. He may give you that to use for the furtherance of His Kingdom, but not to buy 4 houses and vacation all day every day. I can't stand Him!

A reporter once asked Pastor Joel Osteen, "What do you think of being known as a 'smiling preacher'?"
He replied, "You know what? I kind of like it. I'm happy. I believe God wants me to be happy, so that's just fine with me. :)"
I think he is an anointed man of God, who has a gift of encouragement.
"A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance"
(Proverbs 15:13a)
"A merry heart does good, like medicine"
(Proverbs 17:22a)
Merry Christmas and God bless. :)

More of a fan of microchurches than megachurches, I guess if someone needs to have 10,000 people around to get the holy spirit then bless them too.

I think he's artificial. I wish he would stop calling himself a pastor because he doesn't preach the gospel and he severely waters down the Word (when he actually uses it) to keep his contributors happy. He's a self-help guru with nice teeth, but that's about it.

Joel Osteen's 'name it claim it' or 'prosperity' preaching isn't biblical. I feel he is an ear tickler.

Don't get me started.....................
Seriously, I think the guy epitomizes 2 Timothy 3 about how people will enter the church with wayward doctrine, seducing many in the process. He preaches a "pie in the sky" theology, that makes Jesus Christ out to be a personal Santa Claus who will dump whatever we want in our lap, as long as we are "good little saints" who do the program. Scripture never promises that we will all be given financial blessings beyond our belief.
He also comes across as phony as a three dollar bill. That fake smile, every hair in its proper place, and he talks to his audience in a very condescending tone, similar to what a kindegartden teacher would to her students. I have had the privilege and responsibility to preach and teach God's Word to the congregation, and I always took it very seriously, and never talked down to my audience.
I have seen many like him in my day! Scripture warns in both 2 Timothy and 2 Peter that the biggest threat to the church in the last days will not be outside persecution, but inside infaltration! Preaching, "a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof", they will be, as Paul says in the passage I mentioned earlier, "Lovers of self and lovers of money....." I cannot judge Osteen's heart, but, as 1 John 3:1-3 commands, we are all required to "test all spirits, for not all spirits are of God", and I believe Osteen is one that is shown to be lacking in the foundational elements of what Evangelical Christianity is all about.
Regarding Free Thinkers comments: I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THESE CON ARTISTS HAVING THEIR FOLLOWERS PROTECT THEM WITH THE POOR EXIGESIS PASSAGE OF "TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED ONE" OUT OF FIRST CHRONICLES! THAT PASSAGE DOES NOT MEAN THAT A PERSON IS TO BE CONSIDERED ABOVE REPROACH!!!!! DAVID WAS CONSIDERED TO BE GOD'S ANOINTED KING OF ISRAEL, BUT, WHEN HE WAS CAUGHT IN ADULTRY, AND TOLD, "THOU ART THE MAN", HE DIDN'T HIDE BEHIND "I AM GOD'S ANOINTED. DON'T CHALLENGE ME OR YOU WILL BE STRICKEN." THROUGHOUT THE BIBLE WE ARE COMMANDED TO TEST ALL THINGS THAT ARE TAUGHT!!!!!!! WHENEVER I PREACHED OR TEACHED TO THE CONGREGATION I WOULD ALWAYS TELL THEM THEY WERE REQUIRED BY THE WORD OF GOD TO EXAMINE THE SCRIPTURES IN THE SAME MANNER THE BEREANS DID, TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT I WAS SAYING WAS TRUE!!!!! I HAVE SEEN TOO MANY OTHER TV PREACHERS TRY TO HIDE BEHIND THE IMPROPER EXERGISIS OF THE "TOUCH NOT GOD'S ANOINTED" VERSE, (ROBERT TILTION COMES TO MIND) ONLY TO BE BROUGHT DOWN FOR NOT RESPONSIBLY HANDLING THE WORD OF GOD. 1 JOHN 3:1-3 "BELOVED, DO NOT BELIEVE EVERY SPIRIT, BUT TEST ALL SPIRITS BY THE WORD OF GOD". THAT GREEK WORD FOR TEST IS A WELDER'S TERM. IT MEANS TO FULLY EXAMINE THE METAL, BECAUSE THE IMPURITIES CAN EASILY HIDE BENEATH ITS SURFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
