Good question.
Sadly, even most of the famous Christian lyrics writers were more secular humanist than God-conscious. For example: "O Holy Night" is a nice melody and many sincere Christians love that song; BUT no mere time period of day or night is "Holy"; Jesus Christ our loving and merciful Creator God and perfect Spirit Man IS HOLY !
"O Holy God" is much better than "O Holy Night."
The exact time and date of Christ's Incarnation here as One God-Man, starting out as we do as a new-born baby into the world, was at noon, at Bethlehem in Palestine, on August 21 of 7 B.C. Our calendar is off. Also there is no year zero; so A.D.2008 coming up very soon will actually be A.D. 2014.

Christmas is a made-up, nonbiblical holiday, so the question is warped. Whether Christ was born in October, September, Ethanim, or whatever, nobody is sure. Almost makes you think that God didn't want us to celebrate Christ on any one day, but rather, on every day.
Aside from that, why does it bother you to think of Jesus as King of Israel? How about King of the Jews, is that better? No, Jesus was not recognized as King by Israel according to the flesh. But if you are in Christ, you are the seed of Abraham and an heir of the promises made to Israel.
Don't get proud that God has cut some branches off of the mystical tree of Israel and grafted you in, my friend. Jewish people may be in darkness now but God is able to graft them in too, if and when it suits His grand purpose.

You'll notice that many classic Christmas songs refer to Jesus as the King of Israel, and there's nothing wrong with that. In a spiritual sense, all Christians are Israelites, since our roots are with the Jewish people.
I would get irritated at songs that eliminate Jesus, even though I've heard none. Christmas is a Christian holiday, and Jesus should be recognized.
God bless, and Merry Christmas.

No, they don't. They are fun and happy and festive. Songs do not always need to be biblical to be good.
And by the way, the phrase "king of israel" is a biblical phrase used to describe Jesus. (John 1:49; John 12:13) No, Jesus was, of course, not the recognized monarch of Isreal, but he was the king of Israel spiritually. In fact, he was and is the king of all the world. You need to look a little bit deeper than just the basic literal meaning.

It isn't wrong,,He as their King,,,but not just their King only..he is also King of the Gentiles....Our Lord, Our King, Our Savior...and so much more...It doesn't bother me at all to hear him referred to in that way...I love Christmas music,,,,even secular....it is a nice season...you get to see all your family in one place for once,,instead of spread out everywhere,,,,
19:19 Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." It was written in Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek (19:20).
19:21-22 Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but, "This man said, I am the King of the Jews'" Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written."
Pilate seems to have sensed much more than he actually understood. Jesus was their King and their Messiah,,,they just didn't recognize him because they were looking for a mighty warrior and a more kingly person, not an ordinary man and a lowly man as Jesus looked to them....

They said "we have no king but Caesar" in response to Pontius Pilate's sardonic query "Shall I crucify your king?" Don't forget that Jesus was only crucified because he claimed to be the King of the Jews. The Pharisees wanted to kill him because he claimed to be the Son of God, but they couldn't execute him while Caesar was "their king". They had to convince the Romans that he was guilty of treason so that they would execute him.
As for non-biblical songs about Christ, I'm not sure which ones you mean, exactly. The early Christmas carols were all written by extremely devout Christians such as Isaac Watts (Joy to the World), Charles Wesley (Hark, the Herald Angels Sing), and Placide Cappeau (O Holy Night). Each one refers to Christ as King.

You are in error about Jesus being King of Israel. He was born the King of Kings and the Lord of Lord's. He is not only the King of Israel but the King of the entire world.

Read Matthew Chapter 1 and you will have the answer to that one. It shows through the genealogy of Jesus by his father Joseph that had the monarchy still been on the throne, Jesus would have been the legal King of the Jews. Just because some of the Jewish leader rejected him does not change the facts. It was the King of the Jews.

You're confused, Jesus is not only King of Israel, but of the entire universe. You need to get the right perspective of WHO HE IS. HE is the One, Living God. HE is your Creator and mine, along with everyone and everything else that has ever existed. He is alive and well and will rule the universe soon again, once He kicks the devil into the lake of fire (actually, the archangeal,
Michael, will get that privilege) Go Michael! The sooner, the better! It is not "non-biblical Christmas songs that irritate me", it is the LACK OF BIBLICAL CHRISTMAS SONGS ON THE RADIO AND BIBLICAL CHRISTMAS ITEMS ON THE STORE SHELVES THAT IRRITATES ME. The retailers who are out to make the big bucks irritates me, who claim that if they put a nativity scene out for sale it might "offend" someone irritates me, because Christmas is about CHRIST....hence, the word, CHRISTmas. Without Him, these
retailers wouldn't have their Big sales season every year!
And Yahoo, this is not meant to "offend" or violate any of your
guidelines....it is simply the truth.
