Henna is natural, but you should test it on a spot on your inner arm. If you break out, throw it out.

For a slight change, you can try black tea or sage (make a very strong tea, and just rinse it through your hair) for darker and chamomile tea or lemon tea for lighter. This won't be dramatic, but it might be enough to give you a lift.

I'd be really careful even with the teas. If hair dye doesn't work for you, you might consider a wig.

You can try two things : try not to let the solution touch your skin - that's what I do. I don't know what age you are, and if you cover grays, that will not be possible, since you will need to get the color to your scalp to color roots. If you don't have grays, try to color starting 2 inches from roots down and make sure when you wait these 30 minutes that your hair doesn't touch your face. When you rinse off, don't let water with the color run on your face. If this doesn't help, try to buy your color in natural foods market, like Whole Foods. The dyes there are supposed to be natural, but I cannot guarantee that you will be satisfied with the color - it might not turn out to be like on the picture. If you still have reaction, try henna (there are different shades of it, not necessarily red).

Henna is probably the best thing for you. You can get it online if you can't find it in a beauty supply store. It's the longest lasting non-chemical dye I've ever found, but it can only darken hair, not bleach or lighten it. They come in brown and red colours, as well as black.
It's a natural dye derived from a plant, and they use it in temporary tattoos, so it's safe for skin. Unless of course, you have an allergy to henna too, which would stink.

Henna is good if you want to go darker or redder. Avoid "black" henna, as it is not natural and has an agent in it to make it black that can cuase SERIOUS reactions, and since you're sensitive to stuff, it could be harmful. Use all natural henna.

If you want to go LIGHTER, the old stand by of lemon juice squeezed into the hair will provide very natural highlights (but should be activated by sunlight or uv)

i think indigo is used to go black....

Also, many companies make a shampoo that "increases" the tones in hair - there used to be a really good one for red hair that had cherry and henna in it and I could use it and it would drastically add color. They made one for blonde, brown and black too...not sure if they are still around, but other companies might have similar stuff.

Seriously it sounds stupid it will eventually where out it's not permanent --try food coloring---they have yellow, brown, I think even black. Not sure on all the food color colors but serious try food coloring---or if your wanting it to wash out when you take a shower--try Washable markers take out the inside of the marker. Then you squeeze the color out of the marker into a cup---and dye your hair with it. A dumb friend of mine also use to use kool-aid. However I don't recommend Kool-aid because it does have smells to it such as watermelon or whatever and in the summer bees will be all over you. Not too mention the looks you get from smelling like Kool-aid. There are a few suggestions. Hope one of them help.

Try henna for a reddish/orange/brown (depending on the strength and time).
For lightening, or highlights, try lemon juice and sunlight, or white vinegar and sunlight.
Chamomile tea rinse will give blonds a golden glow.
Rosemary tea rinse will give brunettes a lift.
Always do a patch test (Put a little on your inside elbow) for 24 hours before to rule out reactions, even to the natural methods.

hennas would work but its hard to get out if you want to change the color. Plus if you use henna you wont be able to perm or relaxer. Try just doing foils of color because its not touching your scalp. you can put a little milk and sweet and low into to the color mix i read that in allure magazine.

Health stores has so many 'alternative hair dyes' that are
safer to use, non-drying and........100% "non-toxic'! Be sure to have a handy 'moist' towel when dyeing your hair,if it accidentally drips on your skin...dont put 'pressure on your scalp when applying; good suggestion is to use a 'toothbrush'
then, apply the dye, away from the scalp. Better still, apply any cream or lotion on your skin sorrounding your face and neck,it always work....for protection.
