Matt. 4:1-4
Then Jesus was led by the spirit up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil.
2.) After he had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he felt hungry.
3.) Also, the Tempter came and said to him: “If you are a son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
4.) But in reply he said: “It is written, ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.’
Matt. 4:8-10
Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,
9.) and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”
10.) Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’

Some Christians do use Jesus as a Crutch. That is they ignore Him and act like He doesn't exist when things are going well but soon as things go horrible...they are all over Him.
Now there are other crutches too such as alcohol as you mentioned. There is the Internet, food, smoking, drugs, TV, money, etc. Even things like nail biting and nose picking can be crutches.
Basically a crutch is something one leans on to support it through a hard time. It is ONLY used during a hard time. You don't see a person with a healed bone using a crutch. If you did, you pry wonder if that person was messed up in the head or didn't know he/she was healed. Maybe the person didn't feel safe without using the crutch?
So some people use drugs, alcohol, smoking, tv, etc. etc. etc. as crutches. Lean on them when times are tough and others use Jesus as a crutch.
Is Jesus meant to be a crutch? That is are we to ONLY want Him around when we are in pain or going through a hard time? No, Jesus indeed supports us when we are weak and weary. He is our comforter. He is also our healer and gives us strength. He isn't a crutch we can just throw aside when things get better. He is a Friend who is always there for us even when we don't deserve it.

Well the Bible is helping me plenty now not simply in non secular matters but additionally in useful dwelling (It quite beats the hell out of any leadership or self-benefit books). Now if you happen to feel that got here from Satan, then he's going to most likely be the largest comic story and bloke within the universe. **edit** If he quite wishes us to visit hell then why will he provide us the Bible that's quite a well publication virtually and objectively talking. (Of direction on the subject of worshiping traditions and ways, the Bible is also asking an excessive amount of for a few however on the subject of different concerns like trade & finance, handling individuals, methods to win favors out of your bosses. It's all there!!! Especially within the Old Testament). My factor is, he can simply provide us hell right here on the earth through instructing us methods to are living miserably alternatively.

Being on your knees before God is a sign of humility. I think what you are referring to when speaking of feeling under pressure is during a discussion with someone who has questions. Christ Followers like to show reference to the spoke
Word of God when questions arise. The Holy Bible is written by men, but it is the inspired Word of God. It is the heart of God and we are to be like Him and to remember this world is not our home. The Word of God gives us examples through it's history to learn from.Every knee shall bow before Him. Satan knows his end and he'll take as many down with him as he can. He is the father of lies and he hates you, me, everyone and everything created by God. But you know the wonderful thing is, no matter how you feel about Father God, Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit is HE LOVES YOU! He weeps for you. He leaves the flock to save the stray that is unprotected. And about the ten commandment.....there are a lot more then ten, but more than that....it's a change of heart, a renewing of the mind, stepping out of death into life! As long as you have breathe, you are a potential brother or sister in the Lord. I pray God will open your eyes of understanding

just like when anyone of any religion or belief has a problem or a crisis in life, you turn to someone, maybe a friend ect..I,m a christian, I,m 46 and when I,m under pressure,I call my mom,or talk to my husband and yes I have gotton out the bible.if it can comfort you in anyway in a crisis, then why not. For instance if someone I love is dying and there,s nothing I can do about it and my heart is ripping apart and I find comfort in reading the bible, its not a drug .I don,t know how you can compare it to alcohol. so why would that bother anyone else is beyond me.

I suppose both have been used the same way over many years. But they both serve different needs of man. One serves an appetite of the body. The other the mind, heart, and soul of the body. But the Christians have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And we recognize that God's written word to us is the Bible. It gives us comfort and guidance in many areas of life. Because the authors have expressed situations of war, of death, of hunger, of poverty, of hope, of faith, of despair , of creation, of doctrine, of truth, of morality etc etc etc So many of man's daily issues are addressed here as truthful, and unchanging. And what is good is that men according to their perception of life can get comfort from those words. Unlike the works of man where even the answers are not certain and can change. It cannot offer unchanging hope in a world of uncertainty and death.
I hope these words help you understand the why.

probably the same reason why anyone needs to go to a source for a reference.
so if i needed a source for a term paper that means I'm a coward that crawls back to my books when I'm under pressure?
your a analogy was full of bigotry and ignorance. you'll get no where in live carrying a chip on your shoulder.
your analogy about alcoholics was horrible also.

Because the Bible is our primary source of knowledge about God, strength to keep seeking Christ, comfort from hostility, direction in the chaos, and truth in a truthless world.
If you are a satanist, then you must know that even satan fears the word of almighty God. Why do you follow satan?

Christians desire to always depict the truth, we will go out of our way to show the disbeliever historical evidence.
Locating the proper chapter/verse is our way to silence your confusion with the hope you will see the truth!
Sadly, if you reverse your question:
Why does the disbeliever crawl back to when science doesn't have an answer?
Not to worry, the Christian does not place such a burden on you since your already carrying more than you can handle.
Allow us to lift some of your burder, it is our job!

I don't. Give percentages and statistics. Otherwise, your question is just conjecture. You have no proof.
1. Give examples of all the Christians who have quoted the Bible.
2. Prove that they did so under pressure.
3. Prove that they FELT as if they were under pressure.
You see? Your question has no basis in fact.
I take offense to your attack on alcoholics. Not all of them crawl back to the bottle. Those who have truly recovered never do this.
Gee, I am pretty little, and I cannot crawl back into the Bible! I weigh 80 pounds. There is not a Bible big enough. So there you go!
You're busted! NO Christian here has EVER "crawled back into the Bible"...do I hear an Amen?
