Just wondering if believers are supposed to study it. Everyday, I feel a mental prodding to read it and I don't know whether this is God saying "Read it," or my own mind being paranoid.

lol. hard to say,
I would hope that...as a follower of a religion,
you would want to embrace it fully.
and make sure you understand it.

I'm Wiccan,
&& I've read the bible.
as well as numerous religious works and studies.

Blessed be :].

No of course you dont have to read it. The Christians would LIKE you to read it, so you can understand them. But otherwise, you are free to beleive any way you choose.

It is "supposed to be" a free world, with freedom of religion and all that.

Trouble is that the christians do NOT make you free. They tie you up with ALL SORT of rules and regulations. Whats worse is that the indoctrinate their kids with these rules & regulations from when they are babies, so the madness continues.

Imagine telling your kids that a man had to be killed on a cross with horrible nails through his hands (or wrists - depending on which version you accept) and feet. And then they say that it was done because their God loves you.

Is that what love is? That is not love - Its murder.

If you want the REAL truth of christianity - ask yourself one question.

To your knowledge (and research) has God EVER healed an amputee? Have you heard ANY stories of any amputee being restored their lost arm, hand, leg or foot?

No you havent - because it cant be done.

do you check for such things as how much fuel or
whether you have a flat tire before you drive your car?
by reading the Bible and praying everyday you make sure
your spiritual tank is full.
if you were to go into battle with an enemy, like our troops
in Iraq are doing, would you go without any weapons?
in much the same way we fight against the forces
of Satan..
if you want to read Ephesians chapter 6:10-17,2 Tim.2:15.

I would have to say listen to tht mental prodding, chances are its from God. I know myself, before I became a Christian I had no desire to read the Bible. But now I make time everyday to read it. When you sit down and think about it, it makes sence. The Bible teaches us about who God is, what He has done and will do, it give us intructions on how to live our lives, and make decidsions, and it even tells us God's will for our lives as well has His soveriegn will. What Christian wouldn't want to read it?

Yes Yes Yes there is an old saying that says the bible is our road map to this life we live. If we want to make it to heaven we need to read it and understand it and follow it. It is the Word of God and it is our strength to make it through this crazy world we live in, it can answer any question u have. "study to shew thyself approved unto God , a workman that needeth not to be ashamed , rightly dividing the word of truth" 2 Timothy 2: 15 KJV God desires to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us and yes he so much wants all of us to read his word. I would suggest the book of John to start. Happy reading and God Bless.

Either/or, it's still not a bad idea to pick up a Bible and read at least a couple of chapters per day.

Reading usually brings knowledge.

And reading the Bible gives you knowledge on how to be at peace with God....and eventually at more peace with people around you.

here's the thing. you can believe what other people tell you it says. (i don't recommend that, because they are WRONG). or you can read, and study it for yourself, including the original languages because that is the only way you will find the truth. so whether it is God or your own mind telling you to read it, it is right to read and study it for yourself. please do.
