I thought I was over my depression, but it keeps coming back, and I still am uncertain what to do in my life. I feel miserable all the time.

Are you depressed over a break-up or has it flowed into other aspects of your life, so that you are just feeling generally depressed. Have you tried refocusing on enjoyable pastimes, maybe start an exercise program or join some clubs? It is normal to be down after breaking it off, but if it goes on for months and effects you whole life then you should go to your doctor for help. You may need an anti-depressant.

Sounds familiar. Been there done that, it takes a long time, especially after all those years together - even if they weren't the best sometimes. You sound like you put a lot into the relationship, probably more than you should have to keep it going when you knew his style was going down the party route. Would a few visits to a shrink help? Often it really helps to have someone to talk with who helps you see through the anger, pity, and loss. Mostly I'd suggest that you get involved in something, church, club, sports, volunteer at the animal shelter. Get something to do, meet new people. Most of the really nice guys are busy doing something, not sitting with their TV and computer. If you are active in the community you'll find someone.

I've just broken up with my boyfriend and am feeling utterly miserable but I guess the only thing to do is pick yourself up, realise that you're not alone in feeling how you are right now and reach out to people for help. If you've spoken to your ex and she/he isn't in the right place to want to make it work then you've got to look after yourself, realise how amazing you are as a human being and start doing things to make yourself feel better - be with friends, take a class, meet new people...theres too much to miss sitting around feeling miserable!
