I find it harmless humor, and sort of an 'inside' joke that is best understood by Protestants.
I was raised as a Methodist, but for the last 14 years I am Orthodox, and I find these jokes funny and refreshing.
Keiler's jokes are an excellent example of someone who is able to laugh at himself, which is a sign of humility.
That's my view on it.

I do not think he is an advocate, I think he is a comedian. I don't think there is bitterness or ill will in his humor, but I think he is foremost an intellectual comedian. Lutheran attitudes play into his brand of folksy, yet witty humor.

I agree with high pockets, Garrison is neither advocate nor apologist; he's just an entertainer. Yes he attends church but he said it himself that he does not tolerate preaching and so he's attending St. John the Evangelist Episcopal church in St. Paul. He said that he loves the liturgical church where they say words together that are not his words and not your words.

He tells stories based on his own experience. I'm not Christian, but I enjoy listening to him. I can't imagine that the tales of Lake Wobegon convince anybody to convert.

Yes.

Like many liberal believers, Keillor sees religion through rose-colored glasses.
