sorry inadvance for the long answer, but i found it necessay to correct some concepts that i found in some answers

it is not allowed for women to pray, fast or touch Quran during menstruation. you will find enough information in the above Answers

BUT.....

i would like do derive the proof from Quran. read the next ayat:

"They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they have purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah has ordained for you (go in unto them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina). Truly, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies, for their prayers, etc.). "
Quran 2:222

"Which (that Book with Allah) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels). " Quran 56:79

from the previous ayat we can say that :

1- women are not clean during menstruation (Quran 2:222)

2- you can't touch Quran if you are not clean (Quran 56:79)

3- from 1&2 we can say that women are not allowed to touch Quran during menstruation

4- cleanleness and reading quran are mandatory for praying, (according to 3) then women can't pray during menstruation

5- praying is mandatory for fasting, (according to 4) then women can't fast during mensturation

a last thing to say, our main sources of islam are Quran and Sunna. Sunna is what our prophet Muhammad(PBUH) had said or done. the sunna reached us through Al-hadeeth. so we can't deny the importance of hadeeth since we will be denying an original part of islam.

proof from Quran that we have to follow the sunna is:

1-
"Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own (and indeed Allah answered their invocation by sending Muhammad Peace be upon him ), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Quran) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." Quran 2:129

2-
"Similarly (to complete My Blessings on you) We have sent among you a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) of your own, reciting to you Our Verses (the Quran) and sanctifying you, and teaching you the Book (the Quran) and the Hikmah (i.e. Sunnah, Islamic laws and Fiqh - jurisprudence), and teaching you that which you used not to know. " Quran(2:151)

3-
"And obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) that you may obtain mercy. " Quran 3:132

Being a person qualified in Islamic studies, I would like to explain that Muslim women are exempted from religious duties during the menstruation. This rule actually relieves women from having to keep the five daily prayers, fasting and other duties while she is in the uncomfortable physical condition of menstruation. How can one imagine a woman being asked to fast in this situation?

I must clarify, however, that some people generalize and prohibit all types of "prayers". The ritual prayer in Islam is called "salat" and it has to be done 5 times a day in a certain way. This "salat" is not required from women during their menstruation. The English word "prayer" is more general than the Islamic "salat", and can include other types of prayers like the supplication that one does any time of the day, and without having to do the rituals of the Islamic "salat". This type of prayers is not prohibited for women.

In other words, menstruating women can keep praying to God, talking to Him, praising Him, asking for His love and forgiveness, but without doing it in a ritual "salat."

The "submission" site is not an Islamic site. It belongs to a sect that was created by "Rashad Khalifa", a Christian Egyptian who claimed that he was Muslim, then made a big publicity about a false discovery called the "numerical miracle of the Quran". In the same book he claimed that he defined the exact date of the end of the world, which totally contradicts what the Quran and the Sunna preach. Later his truth was discovered. He also claimed that the Sunnah is not part of Islamic law and that we don't have to follow it, so that's why his sect is totally outside Islam.

Hope this makes things clear.

Salaam-peace.

I am a male. Since the answer is known to me, I am answering you.
Muslim women cannot practice religious duties such as salat, fasting etc.during menstruation. It is prohibited. But they can recite tasbih (i.e. Subhanallah, Alhamdu Lillah, Lailaha Illallah, Allahu Akbar, La Houla Wa La Quwwatha Illa Billahil Aliyyil Azeem), Durood Shareef (Salathu Nabi) and Isthigfar during menstruation.

The Muslim women need not perform the Salat of the menstruation period, thereafter. But, they have to perform compulsory fasting (Ramzan) before the next Ramzan. It is better to perform it during the month of Shaaban.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Sister, this site is NOT Islamic. The people who run this site are outside the pale of Islam, as they are people who reject the Sunnah. Without the Sunnah one cannot practice Islam correctly. For instance, the Qur'an tells us to pray, but only by following the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, are we able to learn the correct manner of doing so. Please ignore this site as it is only there to confuse and misguide. May Allah curse this site, Ameen.

In answer to your question, a woman who is menstruating, or who is in post-childbirth bleeding, does not fast or pray. Fasts she must make up when she is able, but she does not make up the missed prayers. She may still continue to make du'a (supplications), recite Qur'an if she fears she may forget (without touching the mushaf), and engage in other daily activities. She still is supposed go to the Eid prayers but should stay away from the prayer area. She can be on Hajj but she cannot make tawaaf or salat.

Temporarily lifting duties from women during their menses is a Mercy from Allah. He made us and He knows that this can be a stressful time and painful time of the month for many women. Even if you are not afflicted with the emotional back and forth or the cramps and pain, remember that many women are and that being relieved of certain duties enables a woman to rest a bit and recover from this monthly blessing that enables us to have children. And Allah knows best.

I counsel any other brothers and sisters to AVOID this website as it is from the Kuffaar and Allah will punish them on the Day of Judgment if they do not repent of their false teachings.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

No they cannot pray or fast. They can make du'a however. This website is full of errors it would be best to avoid it.

Edit:

Actually this site is not Islamic. It is more of a cult. Check out what they stand for. It is crazy the guy considered himself a messenger of God. It's good he is gone.

No she is forbidden to practice any such religious duties because they are in the impure state during those days.
This may help you more in understanding and this doesn't only apply to salah but also to fasting.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av_Q9dcgxBAEUrQ9igFjqLXsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071223095648AAkdPBc&show=7#profile-info-Up8sBpFMaa

You can def. recite small words or Allah's names like Allah huakbar, subhan Allah, but avoid major ayahs or surahs just for the sake of respect.~!

Edit:As for touching the Quran she should not touch it directly. Allah says (Interpretation of the meaning): “ In a Book well-guarded (with Allâh in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).
Which (that Book with Allâh) none can touch but the purified.
A Revelation (this Qur'ân) from the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). In a Hadith that the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) wrote to the people of YEMEN a letter in which he ordered, nobody should touch the Quran other than a pure (TAHIR) person. The known viewpoint of the SHAFIEE, HANBALI & HANAFI schools of thought is that, it is prohibited. This is the viewpoint of the majority of Ulama. This view is taken from the Hadith of Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) when he said: “The menstruous and the impure (JUNUB) should not recite any part of Quran”.

I'm a muslim man, unfortunately, :-) but I am familiar with what you are asking for.

During menstruation, you can not practice your religious duties since you are in period of "uncleanliness", its one concession that is given to women in Islam, to not burden them with religious duties during that period.

I cannot say that i agree with what in the website said, because most of the points are clashing with what is established in the tradition/hadith of Rasulullah(saw).
Remember, we have two source of knowledge e.g. the Holy Quran and the Hadith. What is not explained in detail in the Holy Quran, you can find it here in the Hadith. And this question you have has already been asked so many times by women all over the world since the time of the Holy Prophet(saw) until now.

Is that website for real? I would really be careful in selecting a source of knowledge from a highly suspected source.
The more I read from the website site, the more "unislamic" is the impression I get. Other then love and peace, clealiness also bears equal importance in Islam. Hygienic in Islam is not merely clean on the outside, but inside as well, wether it is anotomically clean or spiritually clean.

Be careful, sister, many are trying to mislead us by pretending to be one of us.

They are not alowed to do any of those things while on Menstruation, we can still make dua'a but not the actual Salat. Some even say that women are not alowed to touch qur'an ether.
