Everytime I'm on "Yahoo Q&A", there's always questions from ATHEISTS about God and religion?? If you don't believe in God/religion, why must you always discuss it - is it because you're unsure about God???! Or is it because you just like to downgrade other peoples religions??????!!!

Of course people ask the odd question about religion, just like I'm doing now, but about "atheists". But why must some people always ask questions about God??? Everyone talks about things they hate - but not as much as things they love?

EXAMPLE:(from an atheist on Q&A "Do you think God is real?" additional details: No he's not, he's a load of ****, he's *%$"£!!!! He's never done good for mankind, religion is *£$%£*!!!!!! Etc.........I don't think atheists look for answers to their questions, but agreements that God doesn't exist? What do you think??

Because in their hearts, buried under layers of denial and doubt, they actually do believe in God but cannot admit it; even to themselves.
It's like the old saying: the opposite of love is not hate; it's indifference. If these people really did not believe in God, then they would not seek out places where people discuss Him; and they certainly would not become "personally offended" just because someone brings Him up.

Fabian, I am an Atheist, and I also enjoy talking about religion. Just because I do not buy into the ideas prescribed by any religious group or faction, you assume that I must hate the ideas?
One of the core things that link most atheists, apart from the fact that we simply do not believe, is that we are willing to accept a world where there is more than just black or white. Love and hate are two violent extremes at either end of a spectrum of emotions, and I am afraid that religions tend to polarise people into 'extreme' reactions. I can give more moderate views, because I do not subscribe to any doctrine.
I actually find the subject quite an enjoyable one, because like most atheists, I have come from a religious training, and to reach my present state of mind, I researched my own particular beliefs quite deeply, found them wanting, and moved on, but not before I then compared my old beliefs to many other versions.
Because of this path, you will find that a selection of atheists are actually more informed about religions than the followers of any one cult/faith/creed as we are able to compare ideas with an unbiased open mind. If YA created a section just for Evangelical Christians, I would not bother to comment there, because there is no pleasure in talking to a selection of closed and narrow minds, its because this section purports to represent the cross section of different faiths, that I sometime enjoy writing here, and reading other answers.
I never down grade others religions, but I do often comment on individuals misconceptions about other faiths, and he inconsistancy of some of thier arguments for thier own faith.

Downgrade other people's religion? The downgrade part made me laugh.
Regarding your question... I'm not an atheist- more agnostic. I think the point they're trying to make is to get people to think outside the Bible (like that? I just made it up)- basically think for themselves instead of using the Bible as a crutch of circular reasoning (ie- the Bible says it, so its true because its in the Bible). When religion ruled- we called it the Dark Ages. Atheists are the minority, so how one group of religion inserts itself in our government and life has a big impact on everyone. Especially when organized religion is responsible for so much violence and oppression around the world.
But don't worry- I'm sure God can take the criticism, right? However, it kinda makes you wonder why he created atheists in the fist place, huh? :-) ~Slacker

Religion, especially Christianity affects everyone. It doesn't matter if you believe or not we still have to deal with all of the your going to hell and I;m right your wrong rants so why shouldn't the atheists be able to answer your dogmatic rants. As a Pagan, I find myself more aligned with the atheists than the Christians. At least they are usually willing to listen to a question or give an honest answer without having to pull out the threats and ignorant bigotry.
The whole point of R&S is to ask Questions about religion and God or God's. Why else would any of us get on this particular page. Even atheists have questions and many that I ahve met are very interested in the different religions and beliefs. That's their right. We do have Freedom of Religion in this country. No thanks to simple minded people like you.

Because it is probably not easy going through life all alone, many by choice. This creates a vacuum for personal identification. By attacking a subject that every human being on the planet knows is very passionate to some people, the loner is guaranteed some attention. What you see here is the attitude that many would like to express if they could just peek their heads of of Grandma's attic, or Daddy's basement.
It has nothing to do with religion, God, you or me. It is all the "me, me, me" attitude that some of the less fortunate choose to blame for personal failure. Misery loves company, and they are on a recruiting drive. Either ignore them, or give the negative reinforcement that drives school shootings and lone acts of terror around the world.

Deception comes from both sides. I agree that atheists contradict themselves when they give attention to God and say He does not exist. On the other hand Christians have taken the truth and conformed it to suit their ideas and culture for acceptance. The names in the Bible were MADE into non-Jewish, non-middle eastern identifications. Joseph and Mary are certainly not middle eastern names and niether is Paul, Peter, and so on. And I know that the savior performed miracles but I doubt if He could change His skin color, hair grade, eye color, and His mother and fathers name and appearance. He is described in the Bible as having skin of bronze and hair of wool. For years the image put forward is a pale skinned blond or brown straight haired, blue eyed man and it's wrong. Why should anyone be inclined to believe in someone who's image has been warped so badly and mis-represented by a group of people for their own benefit. It's to say that a dark skinned man with kinky hair CAN'T POSSIBLY BE THE SAVIOR OF MANKIND! OH NO!! I believe if the truth about the heritage, religios worship and so on was put forward more people would believe.

Thank you! I get so tired of responding to the ignorance of the theists. People who believe in Evolution are evolutionists, not Atheists. People who believe in the Big Bang are Big Bangists, Not Atheists. If an atheist opts to assume the Big Bang is a viable theory, he or she will do so without belief. Belief has nothing at all to do with it. "Belief is something Theist's do in the absence of any facts or evidence. The Big Bang, or indeed anything supported by evidence, does not need belief. It is a simple leap of logic for one to get from the evidence to the assumption that the theory is likely to be true. Belief has nothing to do with it.

Listen up kid; I come here for the comedy that you fundies supply on a way too regular basis.
This is Y!A R&S - it is NOT a xian forum.
If ANY ONE wants to play anywhere they are free to.
You sound like a typical wowser - you think this world is a peniterntiary and you're the number one warden.
Imaginary beings were invented by scammers to keep the peasants under control and to leech money from them.
[sic]
AND regarding 'hate' - I've noticed that fundies use that word a lot; very few atheists use it cos it's such an immature word.

From all the people I know, atheists don't tend to hate religion... they tend to find it difficult to understand why other people have a religion. And the reason that they discuss religion could be because: 1) they'd like to convince others that there is no god or 2) They're trying to understand other religions (but not so they can convert themselves... just simply because they would like to learn...)

Why not? Just because I don't believe doesn't mean I'm not interested in debating religion/God. Religion & the possible existence of God are extremely influential on the world so of course I want to talk about it sometimes.

I think you are confusing 'atheists' with 'agnostics'.
The thing is that 'atheists' DO have a belief. They have belief that God does NOT exist. They are not 'unsure' as you put it, they are certain that god does not exist. It is the 'agnostics' that are unsure. They seem to want to believe but are not convinced. They are the agonised ones who want to discuss it all the time. The real atheists are OK, at least they have their minds made up.
