Probabley trow out bearing, if it was me I'd put in a new clutch while I had trans out

It's possible the clutch is not completely dis engaging when you push it down. does the trans grind in any other gear? If no, then you might have a syncronizer going bad. At least thats how an old Muncie 4 speed had. I suppose newer transmissions haven't changed except for how many gears and whether it has mechanical or hydraulic clutch actuation.

When the 5-speed in my GT Mustang started grinding, it was shift forks and other internals. The dealership ended up putting in a new trans under warranty.

If you don't have any problems with other gears, it's probably a worn synchronizer ring.

Maybe not, could be a bad throw out bearing.
