I liked almost every part of the music as well as the dance part....although I like more of the music than the ballet.

The ballet is a little bit of "Sleeping Beauty", when Clara in the "Nutcracker" falls asleep in Act I, like Sleeping Beauty, just before the mice come in surrounding Clara just before midnight strikes and Herr Drosselmeyer changes the scene from a house party to a big fantasy land where things are twice the size.

The "growing of the Christmas tree" by the magic of Drosselmeyer gives a big Christmas symbolism to the ballet in Act 1.

I liked especially the "Dance of the Snowflakes", "Dance of the Moor", and "Dance of the Toy Flutes", as well as the part when Fritz and Clara were in a tug-of-war with the nutcracker doll and Fritz breaks the nutcracker into two after pulling.

The only thing scary about the Nutcracker was that war scene between the toy soldiers and the mice along with the Evil Mouse King. During most like Nutcracker performances of that war scene, there is usually one loud cannon shot or gunshot that can frighten some children.

Finally, I also like the bizarre thing in the Nutcracker when Clara uses one of her shoes to knock out the Evil Mouse King...which is akin to the silver slippers worn by Dorothy in Frank Baum's "The Wizard of Oz".

It really depends on what group is performing it. The music is fun and upbeat and I love to see good quality performers dance it. Over all it is a great show that gets you in the holiday mood!!

I love the music. The ballet is fun to watch as well. I'm not an enthusiast, but it's interesting to watch.
