Well, what's the differences between children saying the Pledge of Allegiance in schools and children saying "2 + 2 = 4"?
Remember, schools are there to educate, including the loyalty to the country that took them as citizens and guests. Sure young children might not fully understand the meanings now, but when they're adult that they can made up their own minds.
Unless of course you believe that children shouldn't be loyal to the country that took them as citizens and guests, plus that "2 + 2 = 5".

All these people targeting the US with conspiracy theories. Did you know that half the of the stuff you say is b.s. from unreliable sources? I notice that all the people who blame the US for things like 9/11 and such are the people who support the corrupt politicians. If America wants to retake its position as the dominant force in the world, we really have to seed out these liberal scum. Saying the pledge means you support your country, and if you don't want to take a little part of your day to praise the country you love, then I suggest you leave it. There are millions of people worldwide who would risk it all to live in the US, and you take it for granted. Being a US citizen is being given an opportunity to succeed. It is disrespectful to not give honor thru a pledge to the country that gives you so much.

No school can force a child to say the pledge of allegiance. The schools are trying to portray nationalism at a young age. If one lives in this country than I believe they should have faith in the country or leave. People fought for our freedoms and i think we should respect that and think about that everyday. Also what has come to this world where instead of discussing real problems that could save lives, instead we have to debate over every little thing and whether it is offensive enough.

Sure it's indoctrination. One of the objectives of public education has always been the assimilation of America's children into American life. Initially, it helps teach us that we are Americans and, later, reminds us that we are Americans. It doesn't mean that it takes away our individual personalities. Every child who grows up to support or protest US wars, to support or protest US economic policies, etc. said the pledge every day in elementary school and most said it once a day in high school.

No, they shouldn't it's bleeding stupid! Kindergarten children first off, can't pledge to anything, because they are too young to make any significant difference in a country like ours. Secondly, no child should ever be forced to even "strongly recommended" to pledge allegiance to anything, including a country of representative flag, against their will. If a child or even adult wishes not to pledge, it is their personal choice, I frankly think that saying the pledge is a meaningless waste of time, especially for children as young as Kindergarten. Half of them don't even know what most of the words mean, and the others that do are merely reciting a string of memorized sentences to absolutely no avail whatsoever. Reciting the pledge of allegiance every day, makes you no more American or patriotic, than memorizing telephone numbers makes you a telephone book.

you raise an interesting point...
those kids don't really know what they're saying, right?
But i guess that kids are made to say the pledge of allegiance so that they get in the habit of showing patriotism.
In my state, NY, people are not actually forced to get up and say the Pledge of Allegiance in school.

I think it is important to teach children patriotism. However, a child should not be forced to pledge along. As far as "under God" I have no problem with that. However, forcing children to follow a certain religious beliefs in school is dead wrong.
We are not christian but my 10 year old's teacher asked her if she believes in god. She answered yes and the teacher told her that means she is a christian. I am going to file a complaint if she really said that.

they don't have to say it at least not at my little brothers kindergarten they dont if they dont feel like it. but i think they should because this is the best country in the world and people are forgetting what happened on December 7, a day that was supposed to live in infamy but to many are forgetting what happened at pearl harbor. if we forget what happened then history WILL repeat itself. people want to live here and not realize what it took to get here, the pledge creates a bond as a country, as brothers and sisters to fight united as one nation during times of hardships and war and to keep this country free. i think they should keep "under god" in the pledge because the united states of America was founded as a christian nation and it will stay that way until its demise

Yes children should be able to say the pledge of allegiance is school. It helps the child develop some pride and some love for their country. We were born in this country free and love. why not show the country some respect.

I feel the same way.The pledge of Allegience was written by a Baptist Minister that wanted to promote loyalty to the government.Such fanatical devotion to leaders that don't always know what they are doing scares me.It makes me think of Hitler at the Nuremburg Parade grounds being saluted by masses of his troops.Swearing Allegience can be considered an act of worship, because your hand is on your heart and you are making a vow of loyalty to the state.Jesus pointed out in the book of Matthew that the first command from God was to serve God with your whole Heart,Mind, and Soul.Matt. 22:37 and 38.This also agree's to the principle at Matt 22:21.The first command of the ten commandments required that God receive exclusive devotion,Exodus 20: 4-6;and forbide any likeness of his creation to be worshiped. The United States Flag has Stars on a blue background,so that would qualify it.I find it comical that a minister that should be directing people to God,would not know these scriptures in the Bible he preaches from.
