No smoking, no coffee, no tea, no caffine, no earings for men, only one earing for girls, no tatoos, no open toed shoes at church, you can't be forgiven for sins without the bishop's forgiveness, and the Woman must obey the man.

There are many unusual rules in today's society that active Latter-day Saints should follow to become more Christ-like. They are viewed as unusual because many in our societies think little to violate them. Some are:

1. No premarital sex, no shacking-up with an intended spouse.
2. No smoking, drinking that is outlined in the Word of Wisdom.
3. Obey all of the Ten Commandments, which include to keep the Sabbath day holy.
4. Visit and home teach assigned families.
5. Attend all church meetings--primarily, the Sacrament, Sunday School, and Priesthood/Relief Society meetings.
6. Be honest and fair in all dealings with others.

There are probably more rules that are seen as unusual by the world, but these should suffice for now.

Hmmm, I don;t know that they are "rules" we "have" to follow. We are very keen on the whole free agency thing.

However...

We live the Word of Wisdom - no tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs.

We live the Law of Chastity - no sex outside marriage.

We are encouraged not to get into debt (apart from a mortgage) and to store a year's supply of food and other necessities, including money, in case of emergency.

We pay tithing.

Actually, I don't think any of those are particularly unusual or difficult. They seem perfectly sensible to me.

Unusual? I guess you could say that in this world today. We believe they are commandments not rules given from god that he expects us to follow. A lot of people today disregard even the basic 10 given by moses. So yes we are different we should say so and we have expectations to meet. I'll give you the core doctrines that make up our unique religion. We believe the truth and authority was lost through the killing of Christs apostles. We believe a poor farm boy with a 3rd grade level reading education, Joseph Smith, prayed in a grove of trees outside his farm to know which church is the true church of God. He was visited by God the father and his son Jesus Christ in the grove instructing him to join none of them for they were all wrong. We believe Joseph Smith translated an ancient record of golden plates whos author is mainly a man and prophet named Mormon. Now being "The Book of Mormon". This book is another testament of Jesus Christ and accounts of Christ visiting the people in the americas shortly after his resurrection and teaching them the gospel. April 6, 1830 the truth was restored and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was organized. Now a prophecy that was laughed at and taken as a joke in his time is in fact becoming true this day. Joseph Smiths name would be had of good and evil among all nations. The gospel would be given to all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people. No unhallowed hand can stop the progress of Gods work. People all over the world are starving spiritually and would accept the truth if only they knew where to find it. We believe in a modern day prophet who leads the church through revelation given from god and this prophet is Gordon B Hinckley. We believe in temples and being sealed as families for time and all eternity. We believe Jesus Christ took upon himself all the sins of the world and that we can be cleansed through his atoning sacrifice. We believe in being good people, not following the sins of the world but to be a light that all can see. We believe in baptism and the remission of sins. We believe the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by authorized priesthood leaders. Our church is a church of order but in no way a cult like many proclaim. Our church meetings and affairs are boradcasted all throughout the world. We have missionaries that seek after those who hunger for truth. If we are looked upon as being unusual, weird, or followers of satan then so be it, we will find joy that we are persecuted for the truth of God. I know these doctrines are true because I in fact prayed and received an answer from god that changed my life forever and my testimony grows stronger everyday. I challenge any who are seeking for the truth and have humble hearts to pray for yourselves as Jospeh Smith did and I promise you with faith you will receive an answer unique just for you. This is my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

Wow, interesting responses from those who aren't LDS.
No open-toes shoes at church? Never heard that one before.
We don't HAVE to follow any rules, many of us do CHOOSE to keep the Lord's commandments.

We have to tolerate ignorance and harsh words that come from people that seem to have "an axe to grind." (see most comments above)
