That's probably because you own 80GB version or PAL 60GB one. Sony had removed one of the PS2 chips from it, so the amount of supported ps2 games dropped significantly on those versions (unlike 20GB or NTSC 60GB). Update yours to 2.10 or, if you have an update already - wait for the next one (hope that Sony will improve backwards compatibility).

You got the 80GB PS3, didn't you? This system uses a different emulator for running the PS2 games the other systems had originally to cut down on the price. The new emulator is having some software conflict with some PS2 and PS1 games, but Sony has said that they will have this problem fixed through firmware updates within a few months.

There is no firmware update that has corrected the problem yet. Sorry. Sony is working on one though.

Which version of the PS3 do you have. The very first one's that came out were 100% backwards capable. Later one, to save money, scaled back on backwards capability and limited the amount of PS2 games that would work on the PS3. My guess is you have a later version of the ps3, and it doesn't fully support all PS2 games.

Ah I see...Do you have an 80gb ps3 and have you updated your ps 3 firmware to 2.10? If your answer is yes then probably they "unblocked" the title and left the bugs in. In previous firmware revisions the people over at playstation blocked certain titles that were pretty buggy and was prompted that you were not able to play the title. I guess in this case they decided to unblock it. You can also go to the playstation website to find out if the title you're playing is also buggy.
