Are they allowed to write to friends? My friend is becoming a Poor Clare and I was wondering if I would still get to talk to her.

Peace.....The letter writing will depend on how strict the observance of the community is.....they usually try to reduce letter writing, saving it more for family and close friends. This also has to do with "detachment from the world" and starts in formation, increasing the rules in novitiate, so by final profession one is in harmony with the rest of the community.. In some Monasteries with more ancient Rules and Constitutions, the Prioress or Abbess will read the mail prior to who it is addressed to.....One would enter the community knowing this in advance hopefully - best to inquire prior to entering if it is important.....Blessings, "orthros"
