OK, for the apparently ignorant out there. LIllith was Adams first wife, yes before Eve. Lillith refused to be on the bottom"during sex" stating that she was adams equal and not below or subservient to him. When Adam tried to force her she fled the Garden of Eden and went to where the demons resided. Adam complained to God and God sent 3 angels after her. When they caught up with her some sort of bargain was struck. This is where my memory gets a little fuzzy, Lillith agreed to spare all of the children who wore a medallion with the image of these three angels and as for her punishment 100 of her daughter would die each day. She apparently had lots of fun with the Demons. That's why you here Lillith refered to as the mother of Demons. Google Lillith and you'll get all of this. here's a good link for you

It has all kinds of Lillith legends on it. Adam sure had problems with trying to force women to do his bidding didn't he?

Lilith actually dates from the Sumerian creation stories. She lived in a tree in Inanna's Garden.
She was popular in the mythology and remained so up until a few hundred years BC. She was not included in the rewrite of the Babylonian Creation story that the Jews took the Garden of Eden from. However she does appear in depictions of creation stories from Babylon and in some of the inscriptions.

Lilith is commonly thought of as a demon of waste places, related to a small screech owl of the area. She is also thought of as a kind of succubus vampiress demon, able to come to you in your sleep and drain your virility.

In Hebrew Midrash and common folk stories she gets the role of Adams first wife, created with Adam and his twin.
She is thought of as being created back to back with him.

There is more but it gets lost and confused in the dark ages. There were a lot of oddball superstitions being created and the flood of misinformation becomes overwhelming. Even the most credible of the Jewish material is extremely dubious. The middle ages added more nonsense, and Lilith's resurrection as an icon of militant lesbi-feminism from the 1980s on certainly does not help if you are looking for accurate material.

Lilith does appear in the Bible. It is only the KJV and later 20th century and early 21 century editions that have removed her and substituted an owl instead. Poor Lilith, finally crossed out by an editors pen, just like the Bible's Unicorns.
The Jerusalem Bible and a few others have returned her.

Tommy W, that means nothing. They took most things about Her out of your bible since she rebelled against male chauvanism and male-dominance and that is what the bible is all about.

She was his first companion, yes. She got tired of his chauvanistic ways -- since they were both created of the same material at exactly the same time, he had no right.

If we MUST reference the bible and other sources to pacify others: The passage most often pointed to as evidence for Lilith is Isaiah 34:14, which in the NRSV reads, "there too Lilith shall repose."
Another commonly used support for Lilith is the differing Creation accounts in Genesis chapters 1-2. Some claim that the woman in Genesis 1:27 was Lilith, with the woman in Genesis 2 being Eve. (Note that the bible references making people twice. I believe this means there are two different sets of people. This would explain why there wasn't any inbreeding to mess up early genetics.) BTW, I hate it when people demonize Her as the KJV has taught you to do (imagine that). She is NO DEMON, she is a strong woman, which is what Christianity hates.

Lilith is my patron Goddess, but why the sudden influx of questions about Her? Hm....was there some TV show on last night???

In the Holy Bible, I don't recall reading anything about Adam having a wife before God created Eve. Eve was the first woman.

Why do you keep asking this?

No, I don't know who Lilith is, there's no such name in the bible!

Lilith is not in the bible at all, it's a myth like Hercules, etc.

Eve was the first woman!
