Washington State is wonderful. I love it, and I am also from the Midwest. The two Navy bases that I know of are in and near Bremerton which is where I live. (One in Silverdale Washington and one in Bremerton Washington.)
I use to be stationed on the submarine base in Silverdale some years ago. The Submarine base was very nice.
Weather is mild and it hovers around 40’s most of the winter. We do get some snow, and some rain, but not as much as people think.
People are really nice in the Bremerton and Silverdale area.
Opportunities: There are lots businesses near the bases, but in my field, jobs seem hard to find. I have just moved back and I have a degree in Accounting and years of experience and I’m having a hard time, but I have only been looking for government accounting so far, now I’ve decided to look at ALL possibilities.
It is really hard to get a job on the Navel Base unless you are already affiliated.
I have pictures of Bremerton and Seattle and LINKS for the bus system, ferry system, recreation and other information on my website(Click on my Profile to get website.)
One is All about Bremerton and the other is A Northwest Life.

It will depend on what base you are talking about. The weather conditions in each area are different. There is Whidbey Island, Everett and then Kitsap (Bremerton/Bangor) . In the summers those areas do get up in the 80s and occasionally 90's. but still nice with a breeze off the ocean. There are those that say it rains a lot or is grey and yes it is but then there is the days you see the snow capped mountains and the blah just goes away.
With Kitsap, & Everett, there is the regular shopping malls, restaurants, etc... Night clubs aren't really there in Kitsap if you want to do that you have to go over to Seattle. Which isn't that far away at all, you can drive or take the ferry. The housing is nice or you can live out in town. For jobs in Kitsap it is limited at times depending on what you do, you may have to do a commute. There is also a community college that is decent if that is what you are looking for. For going outdoors all places are wonderful, lots of trails to hike, places to visit, things to see. You can also drive up to Canada and visit Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler, etc.. or go to Eastern Washington and see all the apple orchards, the coast and go to the beautiful beaches.
It really can depend on what you are looking for. Some people love it, end up staying forever and other people hate it and can't wait to leave.

I live on Mcchord afb, WA.. not too far from the naval base, The winter is rainy with very little snow, windstorms are a frequent issue, it gets hot in the summer , and the spring ans fall are mild for the most part.....
There are a lot of liberals up here, they like to sit just off the military bases and protest a lot....
Loads of job opportunities for dependents...

The summers are great...the entire week.
Winter is something like, "High, 43, drizzle and windy. Same tomorrow, and tomorrow, and..."
Welcome aboard.
