lying for your own unfair gain is also a "real lie"

No, any falsehood is a lie. For example, I could lie to get out of punishment or an unpleasant task but it is still not the truth. The same goes for lying on my taxes or in a court of law, say to avoid a traffic fine.

I would also submit that misquoting or quoting out of context is a lie, as is misrepresentation of well known principles. Wait, that would mean that creationists are lying to other believers and deceiving them! So maybe lying is moral....

No, a lie's a lie.

I suppose there are some degrees of severity, but any lie would be to somebody's detriment. I mean, sometimes ya gotta get through the family dinner, but wouldn't you be much more advanced if you could just speak the truth and be an authentic human being?

True, you might get disowned.

But sometimes, it's all for the best.

The truth will set you free, all that.

No. Lie also includes intentionally deceiving others. If one is deceived themself; they would be better off then, 'keeping quiet' on the point.
