I have a buddy who is leaving for BCT for the Army and he and I were talking about this...Is it weird for a guy to write to another guy during Basic? He wants to keep in touch with his friends, girls and guys, while he's away but he's worried about the guys there giving him a hard time about it. I thought maybe somebody who has gone through Basic would have an answer to this.

no there is nohing wrong with that. its good that he wants to keep in touch with u and u with him... and trust me gettin a letter from a friend during that time is the best thing next 2 a chance of a phone call. and the other guys wont give him bull cuz they will b doin the same, unless ur friend draws hearts n flowers on the envelope (which i suggest he doesnt) they wont say nothin. but do know he will have to open his mail in front of his DS. so dont send contraband like candy-nakid pics of girls, ciggarets, alcohol. and i suggest as soon as u ge his stable adress u write and continue writtin cuz u just dont know how important it is to hear ur name be called during mail call- even if its a letter from his worst enemy he will b glad its a letter. or even better a package.

im glad u wanna help ur buddy and he will really appreiate it.

THere is nothing wrong with that. What about brothers who write brothers? There is nothing wrong with that. Some people have both male and female friends. Mail is so important to soldiers morale while away from home. So don't tell someone not to write them or you just because you are the same sex.

I know many men who write and send care packages to my husband and other soldiers just to say thanks and keep up the good work.

It just words of encouragement and a way sometimes to vent things or to find out what is going on in civilian life.

I would say write him as often as you can but please don't be upset that he doesnt have the chance to write you as often as you write him. He time will be less limited.

Good luck

Why would that be weird. You email each other, so how are letter different? I've written back and forth to my girlfriends for years. A letter is so much more fun.

Most of the other guys will be busy writing letters of their own, Don't worry about it.

We didn't have any problems with it. I wouldn't suggest writing him poems or anything like that.

Send him pictures of you and your girlfreind, etc. Avoid poetry and drawing flowers.
