Between 8 and 17. Case in point, I was 10 when I had my first period, my sister was 16. There is no set age. All girls are different.
Edited to add: Neurotic has no clue...My cousin was 8 when she had her first period and that was in 1952. It has nothing to do with the so called steroids. And Copper DR. your dentist was full of bullshit. I didn't start getting my baby teeth until I was a year old I started my periods at age 10...Age of periods depends upon genetics.

Hi!
The others have basically answered your question, but here's something I bet you haven't heard:
My daughter got her baby teeth very early: she had 6 teeth at 6 months. (A bit of a problem for me, since she was breastfed; but we worked thru it.) The dentist's comment on that was: "Mom, you should look forward to having 'that talk' when she's 9."
Well - I'd never heard of that connection before, but the dentist said it was quite a common indicator: If the child gets her teeth in early, she will probably get her period early as well.
(We'd already had 'that talk', and she got her first period just after she turned 10.)
Welcome to the wondrous world of womanhood!
By the way: Every woman gets her period on her own schedule. Also - don't believe the tv ads 'Have a happy period', because some of us have more problems with it than others. Be sure to talk to your mom and your doctor before you start, so you can be prepared. (My mom told me all about it before 'it' happened, so I wouldn't have to suffer the embarrassment she'd had in high school, when she wore a white skirt and mother nature paid her an unexpected visit. She thought there was something seriously wrong with her. Her mom never told her about getting her period.)

The common age use to be 12 or 13 but because of all the steroids in the meats and additives in our food the girls are developing @ 10 or 11.
