try going to control panel, hardware and sound, and go from there
you can adjust volume,change system sounds, mange audio devices

Depending on your make of your PC, you can call them for assistance

Not sure what that means, but perhaps the sound is just muted in windows.

Just click start

then click control panel

then click sounds and audio devices

then click the advanced tab in the device volume section and make sure nothing is muted there.

As far as limewire, I'd recommend staying away from it and instead use bittorrent, either utorrent or azureus.

OK
assuming you have windows xp operating system
no sound
here is what you do
click start
right click my computer
click properties
click on hardware tab
click device manager
click the little + beside "sound, video , game controllers"
right click on "realtek AC'97 audio.........."
click "uninstall" ( i know this sounds like a crazy thing to do !!!!)
trust me i learned this from when my com was under warranty from the helpline)
remember to click ok(or apply) if its there before closing device manager window
restart system
your sound should be ok after this
don't ask me why this happens
?

You mean you can hear everything on you PC excpt Limewire? Or??
