When it comes to discussing religion, there is very little that is not opinion. If restrictions were placed on opinions in R&S, this would be an exceedingly quiet forum.

It can be helpful for people to share opinions and give guidance. Others may learn from it or be reassured.
The problem is when people start exchanging insults. Some of the greatest minds in history are and were believers, Michelangelo, Galileo, Einstein. If there is a punishment for not believing, it will happen. No one on Earth has that authority.
Trading insults is silly, no matter your opinion. It makes the other person more hostile and less receptive to your way.

Rather than discussing scriptures and increasing understanding, most religions today only have opinion. They completely disregard God's views. Only individuals opinions are so self inflated that they matter.
True religion is that one which accepts and lives by God's views of life. Throughout the Bible, it shows He detests any less than pure worship, even killing many who worship false gods. The same is true of those who claimed to worship Him but polluted His pure worship with pagan beliefs.

Un-checked mind gathers knowledge based upon linear approach. Based upon existing knowledge (right or wrong or mixed), mind tries to consolidate answers - means it would listen to what it already has. Mind can not think beyond it's domain i.e. knowledge, time and space.
If mind is in your control, then religion can take you from gross to subtle, from mind to no-mind, thought to thoughtlessness, from opinion to no-opinion. So in order to travel from opinion to no-opinion you need both!
At a higher spiritual level, opinionated mind is fill of filth and garbage.

Let me answer directly. The point of people on these forums spewing their opinions is two-fold:
If they find people who agree, they get a wonderful sense of togetherness and community.
If they find people who disagree, they can summon up their faith and do battle, then come away feeling mighty pleased with themselves.
Either way the preacher feels better for it.

religion is nothing *but* opinion, when it comes down to it.
the point of discussing it is to get to know one another better, and to learn to understand other points of view, even if you don't agree with them. it's just that Christians are so focused on trying to assimilate everyone that they sometimes forget it's possible to discuss different opinions without needing to try to force someone to change their mind.

I think we should not discuss in the issue of religions, we should believe and learn.

Everybody has an opinion...It's nice however, to think that we may actually learn something from another perspective!

About as worthless as praying. What good is there in praying if you only hear what you want to hear?
