Struggling to make ends meet on a first-call salary, the pastor was livid when he confronted his wife with the receipt for a $250 dress she had bought."How could you do this?!"

"I was outside the store looking at the dress in the window, and then I found myself trying it on," she explained. "It was like Satan was whispering in my ear, 'You look fabulous in that dress. Buy it!'"

"Well," the pastor replied, "You know how I deal with that kind of temptation. I say, 'Get behind me, Satan!'"

"I did," replied his wife, "but then he said, 'It looks fabulous from back here, too!'"

Momentary pleasures often bring some very unusual things. That moment of fun can bring all kinds of problems. How about a child out of wed lock. How much fun is that. What about herpes, now that seems to be a lot of fun. How about hours of agony because I let down my husband or wife. I was not faithful to them. I could go on and on, about any type of sin. The perfect world would be a sinless world. How wondeful that would be. The new dress will be rags in a couple of years. sin will bring years of desolation and misery.

Nice way to shirk her responsiblity for her irresponsible spending by blaming it on a fictional character. Hmmmmm? Maybe "Popeye made me do it" should become my new slogan?

Funny story, though.

This sounds like far more of a sad excuse for spending too much money. It's not the devil, it's lack of discipline. There are a lot of people out there who know it's much easier to say 'sorry' than it is to say 'please.'
