Herod was a pompous man, who thought that he was a handsome man, and that could he attract anyone, including a teen-ager, and he had incestuous feelings for his step-daughter, Salome.
She knew how he felt,and of course being the young, impetuous girl she was, she took advantage of it,and got whatever she wanted. her mother thought she was ''cute.
When John the Baptist accused her mother of an adulterous relationship with Herod, because she had been married to Herod's brother, first, Salome went crazy with anger.
John the Baptist was already held in prison, and so Salome did her dance for Herod.
it was a very complicated dance involving the ''removal'' of seven different veils. At the end of the dance she wore little more than a very skimpy bikini-like bra, and panties.
When she had Herod drooling with desire, and lust, he asked her what she wanted, and that she could ask for anything in the world, and it would be hers.
Salome asked Herod for the head, of John the Baptist, on a platter.
She got it.
